But im having some trouble deciding which shop to buy from. There are a few differences in prices in some shops in Low Yatt and Imbi.

It is priced at RM4488 and i get a student rebate of RM300 in most shops but i would want an upgrade to probably 1gig or 512 ram. The upgrade prices varies between RM150-200. My question is, if i was to upgrade my ram to 1gig(if it is possible) do i get to trade in my existing ram? Or is it too much to ask for a free upgrade without the freebies they are throwing at me optical mouse+pendrive+2 dvd-rws.

Lastly, im not a one good at bargaining, what sort of freebies can i demand? Any additional advice would be much helpful! thanks again.
You should definitely go for a 1GB upgrade, if you can afford it.

Don't be afraid to bargain as hard as you can. The worst result you can get is a No answer.

IMHO, you will probably have to pay extra for a 1GB upgrade (notebook memory isn't cheap) but you can try to get away with less by giving them back their freebies like the optical mouse (which is probably an ultra-cheap one), USB flash memory drive and DVD-RW discs.

I think this should be your game-plan...

1. Ask for the cheapest price you can get with the specifications as is.

2. Ask how much will it cost extra if they upgraded the RAM to 1GB. Remember to enquire about warranty. For more info - http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=155

3. Bargain the price of the notebook + upgrade as low as you can.

4. Get them to further reduce the price if you don't want the freebies like optical mouse, etc. If they give you very little money back for the freebies, remind them that they have earlier told you that the freebies are worth a lot more. So, how can their value drop so much now?

5. If you are buying with another friend (who's interested in the same notebook or in another notebook from the same shop), bargain it down further because you are buying two notebooks now, instead of just one.

Once you get that price down pat, make sure the salesman writes it down on the specifications sheet and note down his name too or get his name card.

Tell him you need to consider the deal a little before you decide. THEN... Go to another shop and repeat the process above until you find out which shop can offer you the best price.

But please be aware of the pitfalls that you may encounter when you buy a notebook. Do read our experiences here - http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=155

Hope that helps you some!

Oh, I didn't know he's in charge of notebook sales.

Yeah, he would be a good person to talk to.

Hello nurhayu,

Since you are from Terengganu and are looking for good aftersales service, I would really recommend Dell. Their notebooks aren't fancy by any standards, but they do offer really good aftersales service and support.

If you are looking for something small and light, consider the Dell M1210 notebook. But that's definitely closer to RM 4k, than RM 3k. Otherwise, you can consider the cheaper but larger Dell 640m or Dell 6400 notebooks.

BTW, talking about the graphics chip, are you looking to play games? If not, there's really no need for you to get a really fancy graphics chip, or such a large memory buffer.

Well, I suppose you are using a pirated game CD. That's why.

Although we deplore the stupidity of game companies who use CD protection features, it's really not right for us to comment or teach you how to circumvent it.

But if you are using an original CD, then you just need to ensure the CD is in the drive when you load the game. It's a hassle every legit user has to go through... which is why it's so stupid.

Luckily I don't need that with Steam games.

Default Twinhead H12F

Hi all,

Does anyone know what kind of graphics chip the Twinhead H12F is using? Is it Geforce 6100 or 6150? I can't identify it.

Anyone who is using it have any performance opinion of the notebook also?

Many thanks.
