Question NEED A LAPTOP FAAST!!!

Ok here's the deal (sorry if this question has been asked many times) I NEED A NEW LAPTOP fast!

Fast=in 3 weeks.
budget= rm 5,000
use= 3d softwares (3dmax, maya, archicad, autocad etc.), games?

Im really looking for one which i can use as a secondary work station as i travel, and touch up some 3d works while i do majority of my work on a desktop. But sometimes i might use it heavily on 3d stuff. Im running short of time to read up or run around looking for one and if anyone out there could be so kind and tell me the specifics on buying a laptop. I would be most grateful if anyone could tell me where specificly ( i live in KL) and how much.

look forward to all yr replies guys!

you'll need something that has a mobility Radeon 9000 class at least to be able to work comfortably on the notebook. maybe check out our latest review of the BenQ Joybook 7000? It's highly recommended by me and the latest malaysian specs for the notebook priced it at only RM5299. The difference with my model is that it comes now with a newer Wifi module that supports 802.11b and g standards, but comes only with a DVD-ROM and CDRW combo instead of a DVD+RW drive.

However, it only comes with 256MB of RAM, sou you might want to upgrade that to 1GB or 512MB at least.

If you are into 3D work and games, then make sure you get one with a good GPU like the ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 ( http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=162 ) that's found in some notebooks like the BenQ Joybook 7000 ( http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=178 ).

Of course, the actual 3D render will be done by the CPU but the Pentium M processor should not perform too badly in that aspect. Besides, the 3D viewport will be accelerated by the GPU so you can better manipulate your 3D objects in the viewport if you get a faster GPU.

Do NOT rely on Intel's Extreme Graphics solution. Try to get a notebook with at least a GPU like the Mobility Radeon 9700.

The BenQ Joybook 7000 is a good choice to consider. You can also consider the Acer Aspire 1680WLMi or Acer TravelMate 4001LCi M11P.

But do check out our experience with the local notebook market here - http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=155

Hope that helps you some!

But if you have time to spare, I suggest waiting for PC Fair. That's when you can get the best deals on notebooks.

Ok u guys have helped me narrow it down to 2 options..The BenQ Joybook 7000 and the Acer Aspire 1680WLMi...

which one of the two is the least expensive if i was to upgrade to 1g ram..and the lightest of the two?...

that was the last question and your answer will decide for me once and for all!

Thanks to all who replied to my post..it was really helpful

cheers

Umm.. Check the Notebook Purchase Fiasco article - http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle.aspx?artno=155

If you are looking for 1GB of RAM in the Acer Aspire, you MUST get the upgrade done in an Acer service centre. Make sure they agree to do it for you for FREE before you agree to buy the notebook.

Note that you CAN buy the memory module by yourself but you still need to get it installed in an Acer service centre. Also, look for someone to buy the built-in memory modules as the Aspire comes default with one 256MB module (with one slot free) or two 256MB modules during promotions (no free slots though).

As for BenQ, they allow you to upgrade the notebook memory. However, since it comes with 256MB by default, bargain a trade-in for that 256MB of RAM so that you will end up with two 512MB modules. Remember, there are only two RAM slots in the Joybook 7000.

Hope that helps you some!
