I would consider a cooler to be a necessity although I only use it at home. During trips, I do without one.

If you work in the dark often, you might want to consider a USB LED light so you can type in the dark.

My T40 has a built in LED light at the top, which is quite a nice feature, and it has a nice cooler, but after sitting on your lap for a few hours, it does get hot. What cooler would you suggest

I have a R40 for 3 years now, one thing I needed most was USB port cause I have an external HD, my Viao MP3 player, mouse, a DVD burner...etc. Get a mini USB HUB.

And a cooler would be nice, I find IBM notebook can't manage heat efficiently (maybe it's just mine).

1) Notebook Cooler
2) USB 2.0 Hub (there's never enough USB ports )
3) Microsoft Notebook Optical Wireless Mouse! This baby lasts 3 months on a single AA batt

Why do all ppl need those funny notebook coolers?
Running my R51 for about 8-10h a day since I've got it and not even the area where it's placed is getting significantly warmer.

Well, it really depends on the hardware you got. My Joybook 7000's ATI 9600 mobility GPU can get pretty hot! So having a cooler definately helps with the temps when it's on full load.

Yep. ^^
But then again it would be the manufacturer's duty to find a stock cooling solution which makes something additional like this not needed.

Ed.: Btw .. Centrino paired with ATi mobile? Try this out, works great for me -> Centrino Hardware Control.

Just downloaded yesterday. Pretty darn cool utility. Using the dynamic switching profile. so much better than the POS QPower that BenQ bundles.

Hehe.. It's useful because I overclock the GPU!

You can literally burn your hand if you place it in the path of the cooler's exhaust vents!
