Default notebook recommendations?

my cousin from Perth is here in Kuching for 2 weeks. he's intending to get a notebook for his work use (graphic design and architecture) which involves 3D studio Max, Autocad etc..his budget is between RM8,000 to RM10,000.

looking for some recommendations for a suitable notebook.

some specs :-
1. AMD 64 Turion / Opteron? (to support 64bit softwares in future)
2. 1GB RAM option to upgrade to 2GB.
3. preferably 17" screen.
4. Nvidia graphics card if possible.
5. DVD-RW removable.
6. the usual on board LAN, modem, audio, wifi, bluetooth.
7. international warranty.

was window shopping yesterday, seems like the highest end notebook i can find in Kuching is the Acer Ferarri AMD 64 Turion's... retailing around RM7,999. but for that price, wouldn't it be better to get an alienware with Opteron processors? what you think? i'm so against ATi... only alienware has Nvidia...

no pentiums please.. they can't support 64bit yet..

for that price, it's better to wait for the yonah platform.

dual core will speed up his apps.

PM (dothan) isn't really a workstation chip..

but yonah does not support 64bit apps right? anyway, what's the best choice i could go for now? don't think he can wait till his next trip (5-6 years?) back to Malaysia...
