Don't worry. Maybe someone else would continue this discussion...

My past experience:
Since I got fed up of countless wired h/f going bust within a year of use, I decided to go for a BT headset for my dated Nokia 6600. Thinking any brand was compatible, I got myself a Motorola. Since I was a newbie to this gadget, I thought it worked fine but I only came to realise at loudest volume, its still quite soft, also sounding distant on the receiving end. It gradually became rather tedious and irritating. Another fault is, I wear the headset on my left ear which I later didn't feel comfortable as it wasn't snug fit and felt like it could drop off anytime, also at times the phone is in my RH trouser pocket, that's where the reception intermitently becomes patchy and fades in & out.
Thinking its probably faulty, I sent it back to the Motorola center at Berjaya Complex. They promptly replaced another one in a week. To my astonishment, the same phemenon seemed unchanged when used with my phone. How can it be?. I then tested the gadget with the techie's Motorola phone and it seemed a lot louder and supposedly better performance.
I could only think its a compatibility issue. The service center could not offer a fix nor refund.

I took back the Mot BT to the dealer and asked him for refund but could offer only a trade in with a slight loss for a Nokia BT set. I did some tests and its like night & day difference in volume and I don't have to shout over the headset. Its also more secure and snug to my ear, although I don't like the styling.

I still use it till today and thats already a more than a year since. I still feel BT headsets could be somewhat buggy as it can intermittently loose connection on standby for no apparent reason. Maybe its my phone firmware, the phone itself or the damn BT headset, I don't know.
I'm in the opinion BT is still somewhat unperfected and buggy in operation but its still a lot more convenient than the wired brethren. BT can also be power hungry if the battery is not optimum, and phone felt warmer than usual.
I've no experience with newer models, where perhaps some of the bugs and irritation I face could have been eliminated by now. I also had hellava adventure configuring the pc for various utilities to communicate with the phone. Anyway, I finally got it to work now and its reliable enough.
Till then, my advice is ensure one buys the same brand of BT headset as the phone for best compatibility, discounting any manufacturer issues.
Perhaps a sure method is to strap the phone to the ear with big rubber bands around ones head to go hands-free, ya?...

I think that pretty much sums up the BT experience.

BT isn't really that compatible. When I bought my phone and the BT headset, they did warn me that it may not work with other BT phones, etc.
