Hehe.. I read your post. But I'm not really sure if you need a dedicated flasher, as opposed to the software + data cable method...

Flashing firmware is easy as long as you have
1. Flashing software
2. new firmware
both are legit and made available by the manufacturers.. only thing is whether it's given to the public or not.

I know SE does have this via their phone upgrader software. never tried it though.

Hmm the tricky part that is unlocking phones that involves flashing firmware, reseting IMEI, etc... those software aren't easily available and the special hardware is (well) specially made for this to make it easier for shops to render such 'service'

BTW, anyone here using the W810i? Thinking about getting that phone...

Same here actually...I was seriously considering the K750i but I didn't really like it after playing around with one, especially the "joystick" thing for navigation. W810i seemed to be the only alternative I found that had all the features I wanted and the normal arrow buttons instead.

Or I might just get an iRiver and continue using my old Nokia 6610

Honestly, the Walkman brand is sucking all your money. Just because of the Walkman brand, they are charging a lot more. I probably won't get another Sony Ericsson. Might wanna try Nokia, never bought a Nokia before.
