Default Dell XPS M1210 or Sony SZ34GP/B

hmmm

Dell M1210
~RM6000
C2D T7200 2.0Ghz
1GB RAM
XP Pro
80GB SATA
12.1" WXGA .. a lil small to my liking ..
Nvidia 7400
1.3MP camera
1.98kg
dimension : 297.18 x 220.98 x unknown depth ..

Sony SZ34GP/B
~RM7000
C2D T5600 1.83Ghz
1GB RAM
XP Pro
80GB SATA
13.3" WXGA .. a lil small to my liking ..
Nvidia 7400
0.3MP camera
1.85kg
dimension : 315 x 234.3 x 24.7-36.0

Sony has speed/stamina mode to switch between onboard or 7400. It has fingerprint reader & TPM. Has both PCMCIA & ExpressCard/34 + ExpressCard memory card reader. 2 USB port.. no SVideo.

Dell has better camera & cpu. 4 USB ports.

Both has Bluetooth.

hmmmmm ..

Dell's is more reasonably priced compared to sony IMO..i would personally go for dell coz i dun really need those additional funtions.. if money is not a problem then go for sony but still i would think dell is a better choice

I bought a M1210 sometime back for my sis and it's a real pleasure to use, solid build, great performance and a nice total cover warranty on it (less worries for me)

The only thing i don't like is their Wonky Media Direct, since it really never works due to the OS unable to load up properly.

I'm never too concern about built quality, since notebook don't last very long actually, spec wise.

m1210's spec is fantastic. really value for money.
but the unit feels cheap. typical la, this is dell malaysia.
chrome buttons, and too much illumination (abit ah beng). it's quite fugly actually. the display is very good if you can stand the reflection. otherwise it will drive you mad.

Sony...as usual, you pay for the brand, and it has very good build quality. was told by fujitsu lady that sony laptops are still made in jp.

if you want quality, definitely sony. alternatively, you can check out the fujitsu offerings. they have launched quite a number of excellent notebooks since aug. made in jp stuff, but can be a little pricey.
