Default Mobile connectivity - Wifi & GPRS

I am using a Dopod 577w smartphone on Windows Mobile 5.0

This phone has wifi feature built in with EDGE , GPRS and dial up.

The problem is, i often surf with my phone in wifi zones or in my house, if i accidentally walk out of the wifi zone, it will fire up EDGE immediately so i dont lose the connection, while this is useful, it hurts my wallet, so is there anyway i can turn this feature off ?

I have another problem, I cant surf the net with my phone once it is connected to the computer via USB

Hmmm don't use a 577w myself so I'm not sure. But why don't u try to disable that auto-roam feature? that should then no longer auto connect on EDGE

Thanks

I have tried searching before posting here, doesn't seem to have any solution. Seems like most of the user of smartphones are paying for unlimited GPRS package which is why they are not bothered about GPRS.
