i want a stable PC more than anything else. if i can get 200Mhz OC, then i just take it as an extra.

Yup! Definitely! Stability over performance. Of course, I will overclock to the max, but stability first!

I don't think I've lost the will to speed, probably never will.

I definitely agree with that.

I still have a desire to push my hardware as hard as I can but i will NEVER run a system that hasn't been stress tested properly. No OC is worth it if your stuff ain't reliable.

I've learned to temper my need for speed.

Stability is definitely very important to me, now that I have loads of critical data. LOL!!!

i think what the article is asking is that do you buy just for speed alone??

For me, it'll be no. Speed is no longer an important aspect or factor for my purchasing. Instead, like adrian pointed out. It's stability. and power consumption and heat output.

Speed > Overclocking > Price > Heat Output (only a big factor if it's a Prescott)

Seriously, if you're talking about stability and so on...

Imagine this scenario. Importing the schema for Compiere CRM into an Oracle Database running on me Powerbook, a process that normally takes around 15 minutes to do. Pretty heavy stuff too, as its not only creating the many tables, but also importing the big sample database, as well as the creation of all the Java Stored Procedures in the DB.

I just left that running in the background, and I was happily playing Neverwinter Nights in the foreground without any lag at all. And this was before I upgraded my ram to 2GB too!
