The MTS800 is an M.2 SSD module with SATA III 6Gb/s transfer speed, making it an ideal solution for one that requires a compact storage solution with fast read / write performance.

Product details and usage aside, let's have a look at the package content for the Transcend MTS800

The packaging is compact and simple, with details such as the Flash-type, capacity and even the dimensions stated right at the front. You'll notice the words MLC being highlighted in both the red bubble and also as the first line on the feature list.

4 items are found in the package - the M.2 device, 2 product catalogs and a warranty card. Transcend provides 3-year limited warranty, the 3-year warranty does not apply when SSD Scope's wear-out indicator shows 0% within 3 years.

The MTS800 comes sealed in an anti-static bag, protection is always a welcome when it comes to handling electrical products.

Here is the drive itself, as mentioned earlier the MTS 800 is 80mm in length and will fit into most products that support M.2 storage devices. Once the connection point is locked in, secure the MTS800 at the curved point (the opposite end of the unit with a C shape) with the screw provided by the motherboard manufacturer.

On the rear side of the packaging, Transcend included additional details such as the specs of the MTS800, and also installation instructions. The specifications bring more detail into the feature sets mentioned at the front.

2 key details to note are the dimensions and performance - the MTS800 is 80mm in length, this is crucial information when it comes to deciding on the purchase as some components may not have the headroom to accommodate 80mm.

Examples of setup with space constraints are like Notebook computers or small form factor setups, for those space-limited setup one can always look for Transcend's MTS600 and MTS400 M.2 SSDs that are 62mm and 40mm in length respectively.

As for Desktop computers, most boards would readily accommodate the MTS800's length of 80mm, and what's great about using M.2 drives is that one is spared from having to deal with SATA power connector and SATA data cable, making the setup all the more pleasing to look at.

Additionally, the read/write performance can be tested by Scope software from Transcend official site. It’s a helpful tool for user to manage SSD endurance and monitor detail information, such as power-on hours, erase counts and more.[IMG]

One last thing to note - the MTS800 M.2 SSD supports Intel® Smart Response Technology (ISRT) which allows you to configure your computer system with an SSD used as cache memory between the hard disk drive and system memory.

With a configuration as such you will be able to hardness the speedy nature of the MTS800 to deliver SSD-like system performance while retaining the storage capacity provided by the hard disk.
