RAM : 512

Plan to re-use items
1. HDD
2. Graphic card
3. RAM if possible
4. DVD writer

6. mouse and keyboard

So, what can i do with these items? how much i need to invest? shall i assemble my own or get some1 do for me? BTW, i'm fine to AMD/Intel

Hmm,... let me think - if I'm not mistaken - P4 1.5GHz uses Socket 478 slot.

You can change the system into a Prescott ones - I have a MSI P4 series motherboard - and it has an AGP slot and two DDR400 RAM slots.

If you are a gamer, get a Pentium 4 with Socket 775. If you just want to do some normal work - Celeron is fine.

And for the AMD - Try getting the newer Socket 939 Athlon 64 ones. But I'm not sure whether they use the newer-PCIE slots or not.

Is it going to be a gaming machine or just general use?

P4 1.5GHz? Most likely a Socket 423 motherboard with RDRAM. Unfortunately, you won't be able to reuse back your RAM if that's the case. Other parts would not be an issue unless you are getting a PCI-E motherboard.

If you don't game a lot, you can consider both Intel and AMD, but I would take Intel if I were you since Intel has hyper threading.

is tat meant i need to change motherboard, RAM and CPU? how much does it cost for these items? what is recommended? if Intel, i would say 2.8/3.0GHz will do since i'm not looking for performance PC. For RAM, i will take 512MB while motherboard i really hav no idea

Yeah, if it is Socket 423 you will need to change the mainboard. However I think it should be Socket 478. You can use CPU-Z to identify what socket you are using now.

Hi eugenep. Are you the eugene from Sterlingpj.com?
Welcome welcome.

Anyways. IMHO, through my own experience, if the PC is pretty old already, it's better to just get a new set then to try adn revive old parts. It will just fail again from time to time.

A new AMD machine (Mobo, CPU, RAM) should not cost too much these days, especially since you don't demand a very powderful one.
