Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | February 2004 I bought an Abit AN7 together with a Kingston stick (KVR400X64C3512 (3-4-4) double sided) and until now there were no problems until I decided to make a RAM upgrade. First I bought a dual channel Kingston (KVR400X64C3AK2512 (3-3-3) double sided) kit. After I installed the RAM the PC had serious stability and booting problems. I changed slots, relaxed timings to (3-4-4), used only one stick but still no go. I sold the sticks at a discount to a friend and they work fine in dual channel mode on an A7N8X-X Mobo. Prime95 and memtest86+ work fine. So I decided to change brand and got 2x512 Kingmax PC3200 single sided (3-4-4 by SPD) with Kingmax chips. Now the freaky stuff starts. The two sticks work only in slots 1 and 2, together or separately, no problems with Prime95 and memTest. Of course there is no Dual Channel. In slot 3 the PC gets Prime 95 errors on both sticks. But the slot is not broken because the "old" Kingston stick works fine in there. So just for fun I put one Kingmax stick at a time in slot 1 and 2. And guess what? The dual channel works in all cases with Pime95 and all if I keep the "old" Kingston in slot 3. How is this possible? I run standard BIOS settings ("by SPD" and "Auto"), No OC stuff. Are there some settings that need to be applied like change voltages and stuff? System: Barton 3000+ Abit AN7 (Bios 1.9, latest) Leadtek GF6600GT AGP PSU 450W (20A on 12V rail) |
