AMD to ditch P-Rating

Together with the great architecture’s improvement implemented in the next-generation Stars processor, AMD is now considering if this new processor can bare a new family line, and its scheme for model numbering is in revision.

intel has already stop including cpu freqeuncy & rely more on cpu model number .. lolz

dun tell me AMD is gonna use E6300+ or something like that

Great choice for AMD to ditch this P-Rating. Intel now has finally discovered that more gigahertz is not going to be much faster anyway. It's the EFFICIENCY instead - more work done per clock cycle. See the Core 2 Duo E6300? It's only 1.83GHz.

i suggest amd to adopt the naming system of Opterons & Turions for their Athlon products..

Exactly. Can't they just use 1.86 for 2MB, 1.86A for 4MB? Gosh...I hate model names so much.

Hehe.. It's called marketing.

They won't retain the GHz rating because they are afraid that n00bs will think that the Pentium 4 is faster because it runs at much higher clock speeds.

They also cannot just tack on a postfix A to denote 4MB cache because that feels like an upgraded version, rather than a much more expensive processor. If they want to make more from the extra 2MB cache, they have to come up with an obviously different name or number.

So, Intel's numbering scheme is meant to convey to the users what Intel thinks the processors are worth.
