Reputation: 0 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Hey I've had periodic lag for about 8 months now I've tried to fix it but I have no idea what is wrong. The lag is with everything I do internet browsing and gaming I stopped gaming for awhile so I didn't mind the lag much for internet browsing but recently I've wanted to play online games again and when I do the lag really shows every couple of minutes I will have very severe lag and when I play most games this lag will cause me to disconnect. I have a WRT45G linksys router, comcast cable internet and a motorola SB5101 cable modem. Thanks |

And the lag im getting is just total stop lag everything stops for how ever long the spike lasts and then either goes back to normal 1-3 min later or disconnects me from what im doing. Also at first i thought it was my main computer problem but every computer in my house has this problem so im thinking it has something to do either with my router or modem or w/e. |

Before you jump to conclusions about the lag being "online". Make SURE that you have no other equipment transmitting at 2.4 GHz near your router. Next, try using Cat5/Ethernet cables instead of wireless to test for the intereference problem. Check to see if you have any neighbors broadcasting WiFi. If so you need to make SURE that you are using a channel at least 5 digits apart. i.e... he's using 6 , you use 11. Lastly, connect your modem to the cable NEAREST where it enters the house (outside if you have to). You can then repeat the above steps with the modem "outside". Effectively you are eliminating "line noise" from your house's cable/wiring. OK, background stuff... what is he talking about??? I have had similar issue with Comcast using an older RCA modem and similar router. It turned out to be a signal to noise ratio problem. The length of RG-6 cable was so long going to my modem that the signal was too weak for the particular modem. If I hooked it where the cable came into the house it was good. The fix... I had to pull a new/shorter RG-6 wire from outside to the modem. If all this checks out... Access you modem pase Surfboard line is usually http://192.168.100.1/ and you should be able to check for your S/N ratios, Downstream Power, Downstream SNR, Upstream Power, Upstream SNR, etc... There are various fixes depending on what you find, ... Comcast will do the same tests/fixes for you but it'll cost ya! Last edited by Ishtim : 7th Aug 2007 at 09:45 PM. |

(press ctrl+alt+del, then click on process tab and find out if spoolsv.exe is taking up all your cpu resource) If that is the case, you can check out this solution http://torque.oncloud8.com/archives/000384.html It could also be a virus, so update your virus definition and do a complete scan.
