Reputation: 12 ![]() Rep Power: 0 | Hi! If I make a RAID 5 with 3 hard disks on a mobo (for example asus p965/ intel ich8 raid) and my motherboard/raid controller becomes useless/dead how am I going to recover my data ? is it possible? thank you. |

Reputation: 59 ![]() Rep Power: 4 | if hes replacing it with the same mobo and the bios is set to boot from the correct controller then it should detect the raid 5 array with no problem. might want to try running chkdisk on each drive and make sure theres no problems. i had a similar problem when there was a power outage and my 2nd raid drive had a damaged sector and the motherboard wouldn't detect the raid configuration.

The parity always save on the chip which it life support by battery, in case of your parity(controller) dead mean your can forget about all your data in your 3 HDD lo.... When battery failed there will always stated in your event log so people can change the battery when it going to dead... same concept like your BIOS... The RAID controller is very important to have your RAID running... so i dun think you change the mobo and you can get the RAID 5 back... unless there is any transfer of parity which i not sure about that...
