Hello login,

Thanks for your kind comments.

Actually, the chance of overclocking the Centrino notebook depends NOT on the processor core (Banias or Dothan) but rather on the motherboard's clock generator.

If the motherboard is using a clock generator compatible with that of the two ClockGen utilities, then you can overclock the processor and motherboard. Otherwise, you will get that error.

Hmm.. Are you sure you actually overclocked the processor?

You should check by benchmarking the notebook before and after applying the ClockGen settings.

Here's how you make a shortcut to set ur clockspeed. http://www.cpuid.com/clockgen.php#directions

Just creating a shortcut to clockgen won't set it to the overclocked speed as by default, it does not keep the settings anywhere.

pulling the plug n yanking out the batt is not wat i'm worried abt.

what i am worried abt is if it writes back into the bios.

i don't think so, but if it does, i'll end up with a very expensive paper weight...

Clockgen WILL NOT write anything into the BIOS. Everything will be reset to default after rebooting your system.

I have a Dell Latitude D800 and it works with the CG-CY28346 ClockGen utility. The same also works on my friend's Inspiron 8600.

So far I ramped it up from 1.3 GHz to 1.45 GHz without any adverse effects. I'm going to Ghost my system tonight and then try pushing it further.

Even just the extra 150 MHz had a noticeable improvement in Doom 3. Likely because of the oc'd memory and AGP clocks on top of the CPU.

How do you get the change to the FSB to stick after you have restarted the computer. I tried the method described on the ClockGen website about creating a shortcut but when I run the shortcut I get a message saying "Error reading param file !"

I created a shortcut to ClockGen with the target line as "C:\Program Files\ClockGen\CG-CY28346.exe" -file=savefile.txt

The savefile.txt contains the lines

[CG-CY28346]
FSB=107.22

and is in the same folder as the ClockGen exe.
I can figure out what I'm doing wrong.

I am using ClockGen CG-CY28346 on a Dell Inspiron 8600 1.4GHz P-M. CG-CY28346 does on have AGP Freq controls, only FSB.
