Default x264 Benchmark Results Updated

graysky had just updated the Intel performance table. It now contains several quad-core Yorkfield ES chips including Xeon E5330 (Dual CPU - 8 cores), Q9550 and Q9350.

The x264 benchmark measures how fast your machine can encode a short, DVD quality MPEG-2 video clip into a high-quality x264 video clip. It will give you results in FPS that can be used to compare the performance of different CPUs and different CPU settings.

Here's a quote from the article :-
Quote:
"What's x264, you ask? It's more or less the next-generation Xvid/DivX codec. I think it's ideal for a benchmark because the application (x264.exe) reports fairly accurate compression results (in frames per second) for each pass of the video encoding process, and it uses multi-core processors very efficiently."

Updated the tables with another 45 nm chip: the QX9650 -- both at stock levels and @ overclocked to 4.2 GHz! With it, and the others (Xeon E5330 (Dual board), Q9550, and Q9350) there is now data on 4 different 45 nm chips.

One thing that I found striking about these new chips is that they are only marginally faster than their 65 nm counterparts when encoding x264 (about 5-6 % faster with all other factors being equal or close to equal). Have a look at the general trends table for the Kentsfield vs. Yorkfield comparison at the official host.

Hey guys tried this out and maybe I am missing something or its too early and I haven't had enough Java yet

I copied the file DGDecode.dll to the C:\Program Files\AviSynth 2.5\plugins directory as indicated in the instructions. I run the program and enter the file name when prompted but when I hit enter the screen just closes.

Running XP Pro SP2 any ideas ?

There is a FAQ... see the first question. I'm guessing your not running it from c:\work2

Well ran this dead stock for reference on this old Prescott 2.8 (21x133) let it run after I went to bed. The numbers I am sure won't impress anyone but like the test. I will set things back up the way I normally run and run it again tonight if I get a chance
