Default Do You Really Need Surround Sound?

Speaker manufacturers have always expounded the benefits of a 5.1 speaker system for gamers - more accurate audio positioning, better spatial effects, larger soundstage, etc. But are surround sound systems really necessary for better gaming?

Join marc as he takes a look at the benefits and fallacies of 5.1 speaker systems. This will help you decide if you really need a 5.1 speaker system.

Here's a quote from the article :-
Quote:
"If you are looking to buy a new desktop PC for gaming purposes, you’d surely want to get a good set of speakers to go with it. That's when you get confronted by "the choice"? Should you splurge on a full 5.1 speaker system or should you just get the cheaper but less impressive 2.1 speaker system?"

Came across your article in Digg. I like your explanation regarding why it is not really needed. Me too was once thinking about that and now that I have read your article, it is so clear to me why I should not get one for myself. Again, excellent article. I love it.
