Specifications are all well and great, but can you really tell how much faster is one processor from another? Both Intel and AMD are trying to do just that with their model numbering scheme. But with over 30 SKUs, the Intel Core 2 family of processors has become a confusing bunch of numbers.

We begin a performance comparison project for the Intel Core 2 family of processors where we test and compare the Intel Core 2 processors' performance in five different benchmarks. It will show you exactly where a higher clock speed would be more advantageous and where the number of processing cores is far more important, as well as situations where the processor itself won't really matter much.

Just saw your update.. now shopping for processor. The Celeron Duo is rather not impressive. However, the your next range of processor is high end already. Was thinking of getting mid-range (budget minded ) maybe E2000 series? Getting any comparison to the chart so that at least I know what the performance extra vs the mooola .

How much is your budget? The lowest end E6000 series are not that expensive.

Unfortunately, no Pentium Dual-Core processors are available yet. Maybe you can buy one and lend it to me for tests!

But Chai's right. Why not opt for the lower-end E6000 series?

argh ... third time replying to this post.. previous 2 reply didnt get posted .. something really weird is going on at tis forum...

I think I would go for E4000 series cos is under RM400. E6550 is bout RM550. I do not need that processing power. E2000 series is under RM300 while Celeron duo is only RM150 ...
