Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player Review

December 10, 2008 – WD® (NYSE: WDC), the world’s leader in external storage solutions, today introduced a simple way for consumers to play their stored digital content on their HDTV in Full-HD 1080p resolution.

The WD TV™ Media Player connects to a user’s TV or home theater and plays digital movies, music and photos from WD’s My Passport™ portable drive or other USB mass storage device. The WD TV Media Player is available now at select retailers.

What format does this unit support? I mean the video format/codec.

• MPEG 1/2/4
• WMV 9
• AVI (MPEG4, Xvid, AVC)
• H.264
• MKV
• MOV (MPEG4, H.264)
• MPEG2/4, H.264, and WMV9 supports up to 1920x1080p 24fps, 1920x1080i 30fps, 1280x720p 60fps.

This one has MKV support!

This one has MKV support!

Surprisingly, it couldn't support AVCHD though. Then again, AVCHD has not been standardized yet.
