3 years ago, ATI and NVIDIA graphics card line-up was not as complex as it is today. Many of their graphics cards were actually using the same GPU, so enthusiasts could mod their lower-end cards, using software or hardware methods, into higher-end graphcs cards. When ATI and NVIDIA began using many different GPUs for different product lines, graphics card modding fell out of favour because enthusiasts could only overclock their graphics cards to maximize their potential. However, a method for soft-modding an NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GSO into an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB has been found. This mod instantly gives you a GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB card at half the cost! I can't read Chinese either. Hehe... But I think you should just click on the large blue download link which brings you further down to a whole list of links, with green and red icons. Just click on any of the links with a green icon. Are you sure this mod isn't for certain Galaxy 9600 GSO's only? I remember reading this last Spring: www.LLY.get.to: How to Softmod 9600GSO into 8800GTS 512MB Part1 That article mentioned to the same link with the modded bios.
It's for certain GeForce 9600 GSOs with 8 memory chips. I don't think the brand is as important as the fact that the card MUST have 8 memory chips. It's all stated in the guide. In any case, should you try the mod out, be sure to make a backup of your graphics BIOS first.
Oh man, I think I need to find those 9600GSOs... wait, they sold it out already!! Some few months ago they were heaps of them in the store. Now..they could be displaced by the 9800s.
From what I've been reading it seems like this mod will only work with a limited number of Galaxy 9600 GSO cards which were released using leftover 8800 GTS PCB's. These were only available in parts of Asia and Australia. All of the EVGA 9600 GSO's I have seen(including my own)have 6 memory chips.
