Fermi has been out for ages, but NVIDIA continue to rely on their older GPUs to power their graphics cards. Take, for example, the NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250. Despite being part of the GeForce 200 series of graphics cards, it's actually a rebranded GeForce 9800 GTX+. So it was no great surprise when NVIDIA informed us that they would be launching the GeForce GTS 450 and that it would replace the GeForce GTS 250 and all x600 graphics cards (GeForce 9600, GeForce 8600, etc). Our initial thoughts were, "Finally!" and, "It's about time they put the G92 out to pasture". Then came the big surprise... Link : NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450 Technology Report
Wow, Only $129 bucks!!! Might have to upgrade. I'm still using G73... The question is how many FPS will it do on Quake 3 Arena @1600X1200? Chai, The "suprise' is that G92 lives on in the 250 cards.
The price is unbeatable. I'll save up to get one. Btw, does this card contains the Fermi? I might do some intense maths inside there for my project.
The big surprise is -> they will continue to ship the GeForce GTS 250! I have nothing against the G92. In fact, I love the G92. It was a great GPU in its days. But I always felt that the GeForce GTS 250 was somewhat of a scam. If I were NVIDIA, I would try to quickly replace the GTS 250 with a genuinely new card.
I thought it's based on GF106? I don't think this card is really that great. It merely matches the 5750/5770 series, and the current retail price is about the same. Personally, I think GTX460 is the best card of the year, the 1GB model is much cheaper than 5850, and they are neck and neck most of the time. This is the only card that AMD were forced to reduce price on the dominating 58xx series.
Hmm.. You are right. Better correct that ASAP. It's a great card for NVIDIA fans because what other real alternatives do they have, if they refuse to move to the AMD camp? The GTX 460 is definitely a better choice if you have the cash, but for those on a tight budget, the GTS 450 will probably end up as the 7600 GT of its generation.
Even as an Nvidia fan, I wouldn't wait for 1 year for a similar card at the same price. GTX460 is really not that much more expensive. About RM200 more.
Ahh.. my post got deleted in the DB corruption. Anyway, as I recall I posted this... I totally agree with you about the timing. The GTS 450 should have been out MUCH earlier. Have no idea why NVIDIA took so long. Wouldn't have waited that long. But now that it's here, I think it really offers the gamer on a budget a pretty good upgrade option. The GTS 450 is actually about US$120 (RM 370) cheaper than the GTX 460. That's quite significant, especially if you are still playing games on a 17" or 20" monitor, and don't intend to upgrade.
You can actually get a GTX460 for RM699 (even for the 1GB model!). I doubt GTS450 is RM370 cheaper. I checked Compozone's price list, it's RM479 vs RM 669 for the cheapest card of their line, only RM190 difference. It's really too small not to consider GTX460.
Oh yeah, now I remember I forgot to add that "the cheaper price of the GTX 460 may true here, but it doesn't seem to be the case over in the US". Yeah, over here, I would really consider saving up a little more and buying the GTX 460 instead.
