Even though you may have successfully linked your Bluetooth headset to your computer , Windows may not use it as an audio output device. You will need to enable the "Listen to Music" service for your Bluetooth headset before audio gets piped to it, instead of the computer's speakers.

Even if you get to that point, you will notice that your Bluetooth headset will disconnect itself whenever you recharge its batteries. That's okay, but it's supposed to automatically re-enable the "Listen to Music" service when it reconnects to your computer. In some cases, it will refuse to do so, forcing you to manually enable the "Listen to Music" service every single time you connect your Bluetooth headset to your computer.

This mini-guide will show you how to enable the "Listen to Music" service for your Bluetooth headset and how to force Windows to accept your Bluetooth headset as the default audio device, if it doesn't already do that.

    No "Listen to Music" Service

My bluetooth speaker is connected to Windows 7 but music does not play to it - well, nothing plays to it. It displays in the control panel / devices as a headset. I found your instructions for turning on the "Listen to Music" service, but I do not have the options you describe. In step 3, when I right click the device, I do not have Services listed in the drop-down list. I can go to Properties and select a Services tab, but the only services listed are Audio Sink and Remote Contol. Both are checked.

I can use the same speaker on a different laptop with Windows 7. Could there be something disabled in the Windows installation on this laptop?

I'm stuck in silence! Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hi tativa,

You should update the Bluetooth driver for your notebook. Earlier, I also had trouble with my Bluetooth headset until I updated the driver.
