If you check the experiences of everyone in this thread as well as those in the thread for the Maxxing The Go5200 article, you will see that everyone's mileage with the Go5200 varies.

So, try overclocking your Go5200 step by step. Once you encounter artifacts, you know you have gone a little too far. Downclock the Go5200 a little and you're set!
Cool, thanks. I've tried overclocking my card and the fan is on almost everytime, is that normal? Will that burn out my fan? Also, what are artifacts? I'm kind of new. And also, I was thinking of buying a laptop cooler, is the Vantec LapCool 2 305 good enough? I was thinking I needed a cooler laptop if I'm going to overclock it. Thanks again and happy holidays!

Hello lavi48,

Yes, it's normal for the fan to be running almost all the time. After all, you are overclocking the Go5200 which increases its thermal output.

Burn out the fan? Well, like all mechanical parts, wear and tear will eventually kill any fan.

Artifacts are abnormal visual elements. Like white/black dots or a checkerbox effect, etc. Anything that doesn't look normal.

The Vantec LapCool 2 is exactly the same as the Jetart Xcool NP5000. Vantec OEMed it from Jetart. You can check out our review of it.

However, a laptop cooler like that is unlikely to help cool your Go5200. After all, it's embedded deep within the notebook.

This is the wrong thread for it BTW.

This thread is for the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200.

We will be coming out with an overclocking guide for the Mobility Radeon 9700 soon though!

I'm using GeForce FX5200 and I'm not a hardcore gamer. So all the games I'm playing using this card seem to be ok

Yeah, it should be okay for games that don't require a great deal of processing power. But try Doom 3 and it will definitely choke.

ha, ha

My brother and I lowered settings to below what's normally allowed in the game. We managed to get it to a consistant playable framerate. The game looked ugly but it was playable in a sense.

Update time. : )

When looking around the forums here the other day I remembered there was a link posted here somewhere to a site that had a list of drivers for the Geforce Go GPU's. After I finally found the link I went to the site and noticed Forceware 66.10 for the Go5200 was available to download. (Here's the link for any who need.)

As with v57.64 driver, I had to do a bit of extra work since the driver wouldn't "take" when using the auto-installer. After getting windows to manually install them it worked. In the installer it said it's for Dell notebooks but appears to be compatable with my M30.

Now for the good stuff. I ran timedemo test in Doom 3 using the lowest settings without tweaking. With the v57.64 drivers I got a score of 12.6 fps. The same test with the 66.10 drivers gave me a score of 23.9 fps. Not too bad for the GeForce FX Go5200. I have been playing around with Riva Tuner and pushing it up further. It may only give a few extra FPS but every little bit helps. Atleast now Doom 3 is quite playable.
