I did download and played with the Taiwan Powerstrip yesterday and I got the side with the icon of the processor got up to 299mhz without any trouble but anything over that created total failure of the card and my screen was "fuzz." The other clocking option with the RAM icon got up to about 600mhz before the screen blacked out while running Halflife 1. By default they are (processor) 195mhz and (RAM) 391mhz. Aside from this program I do not know how to check for speeds. perhaps you could enlighten me on the best way.
Surely my card can run things at the proper speed. surely.

If however it cannot, is it doable to have a new card installed that is more powerful without getting a new motherboard? Is this even a slightly good idea? thankyou.

Err.. Just overclock the Go5200 as high as you can WITHOUT those blackouts.

In your case, I would say going up to 280MHz core and 580MHz memory. But double-check by testing with 3DMark or a 3D game.

Nope, you cannot upgrade or replace the Go5200 with another GPU. Otherwise, we would have all done that ages ago!

It's as if the game is running in slow motion- not lagging- but as if the game is being played in Matrix Bullet Time. Occasionally it will speed up to normal speeds but this is rare and random. I have installed new drivers, I have reverted to old ones. I have updated BIOS and various other possible slowdowns. The Matrix effect is the same regardless of quality settings either high or low! What can I do?!
Hey, let me be the first to guide you to the answer. What you're referring to is "matrix lag", it's simply a heat issue, which you can solve one of several ways. I'm guessing your laptop is an Inspiron 5150 which has constant heat problems.

#1 - You can open up your laptop and use better thermal gel on the heatsink making contact with the processor (that is where the problem lies), clean out the fan ducts, or several physical modifications... But all need to be done several times (not one after the other, I mean once every few months), and opening your laptop can and probably will void your warranty.

Or #2 - My solution . I am seriously the pioneer of this tweak, if someone else hasnt already done it and not posted it. Check out my post either on 4peeps.com or laptopvideo2go.com (my username is the same in either one). Here's my guide: Inspiron 5150 Quick Tweak

I'm sure if your laptop is NOT an inspiron 5150, the setting needed to be disabled as stated in the guide should still be in the BIOS. I've posted a link to the program from the official site, I use it, so it is safe.

You can also read my other posts, such as coming up with a new video solution for the 5150 (hardware mod from the FX Go5200 to the FX Go5600) in the nvidia based laptops section of the forums.

I just cant resist helping people when this problem comes up. every tech support you call I can guarantee they will say the FX Go5200 is too crappy for the new games (even though I told them the video card is not the problem and I am 100% sure of it)

I've also posted a benchmark on the site pertaining to the FX Go5200 using my clock speeds (244/477), various settings and a comparison computer. Seriously though, spread the word about my Matrix Lag fix, please. I suffered for a year and a half so I know how it feels.

Question Reliable 5150 GPU OC speed?

Ok, I have read the entire forum (thread), but didn't quite find the answer I was looking for.

I also have a Inspiron 5150 and was curious as to what overclocking speeds people are getting without melting their Graphics cards. Ive heard that 220/440 was a good rate to go with, but I want to hear from people that have been running overclocked 5150's for quite some time, to prove that that speed is indeed safe.

I've seen the heatsink on my 5150, for the GPU, and it ain't too fantastic (So to speak) IE, there is no GPU fand, just a plate of aluminum a few inches square. It gets pretty hot even at the set speed of 200/400. I really do not want to cook it, or the power control chip that sits right under it.

The 5200 i have is a 32mb model, but I have the 64mb version on it's way from dell, I'd rather not cook either.

Thanks

Hmm.. I have never tried the Dell 5150, but I hope someone who has will tell you about it soon.
