Default DVD Problem with Go5200 Drivers

Yea, it was the drivers. I updated to the latest Forceware from NVidia and DVD problem seems gone. My only question with this now is, my diagnostic test now shows 59.5fps for all three categories. As it tests it seems to reach 59.5 and just sit there. It never goes above it. Is this normal? It's as if there is a frame limiter on it or something. My Emachines is reporting over 700fps for the Half... tests. Thanks also for your articles on the G05200, they have been extremely helpful!

Hello John,

That's probably because vsync was enabled. That's why your frame rate is limited to about 60Hz, the refresh rate of most notebook monitors.

What you can do is go to the driver settings. Go to Performance & Quality Settings. Look for the Vertical Sync option. Untick Application-Controlled and force it to Off. That will turn off vsync.

Vsync is useful because it prevents "tearing" when a video or image is rendered faster than the monitor's refresh rate. So, you might want to keep it on unless you are benchmarking.

Well, I think actual tweaking for the GeForce FX is at an end, so new drivers shouldn't improve the Go5200's performance by much.

I now use the 6.14.10.6112 driver.

So I have a Toshiba M30-S320 with this GeForce FX Go 5200 card in it. I'm using it for CAD, not games, and so far it's been fine.

If, down the road, it is no longer adequate for my needs, can the card be replaced (is it soldered to the motherboard or is it replaceable)?

I hope it is, but if not I'd have to consider replacing the laptop.

Just thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Brian

Hello Brian,

Unfortunately, the M30's GPU is not upgradeable. You will have to replace the notebook if you want something with more oomph!

Default Intel integrated extreme graphics 2 855gm chipset

I want to know more about the performance of Intel integrated extreme graphics 2 with a 855 GM chipset with integrated 32-bit 2D/3D graphics.

I read a post on this forum but it was slight confusing. it did not specify how the scores would relate to other graphics cards.
I understand that it is not one of the best processors out there but i want to know whether it can sustain atleast a goood DVD playabck and some gaming too. IF sombody can tell me which NVIDIA card would it equal in performance even that would help.

Are there any benchmark tests done already. if so can you tell me the sites

Hello chintu,

This is definitely off-topic. You should have posted it in the Graphics Card section (http://forums.rojakpot.com/viewforum.php?f=6).

But to be honest, Intel's Extreme Graphics 2 is only good enough for DVD playback and 2D games. If you want to check its specifications and compare it against many other cards, please check our Mobile GPU Comparison Guide - http://www.rojakpot.com/showarticle....=98&pgno=0.

Hope that helps you some!

PS. If you have any other questions, please post them in the correct forum!

This thread has given me some new hope. I bought my M30-UU9 back in June and at various times tried to update the display drivers. The only drivers I can get installed correctly are the ones on the restore CD and off Toshiba.ca's site. There doesn't appear to be much difference (if any) between the two.

I downloaded the latest Forceware drivers and attempted to install them. After the reboot I checked and there didn't appear to be any sign the drivers were installed.Hoping they'd work I downloaded the 52.16 drivers. Unfortunately the same thing happens. I forced Windows to look in c:\NVIDIA\WinXP2000\52.16. After some work I finally got a list of GPU's. There wree about 8 GeForce FX 5200's but no Go5200. (This is sounding like the same problem joeljkp had back on the first page).

I picked one of the 5200's and installed. This half worked. Windows looked fine but the few games I tried were messed up. So now I'm back to the old Toshiba drivers. Should I try the other GeForce FX 5200's on the list to see if they work correctly or should I try downloading a different driver?

Thanks for any help and ignore any typos that may be there. I'm nearly falling asleep.
