marvel31, what this mod does is turn it into a FireGL card. A FireGL card greatly improves the performance of professional 3D applications but it won't improve the performance of games.

So, this mod will be of greatest use to those who need a FireGL card but cannot afford to pay ATI's exhorbitant prices for such workstation-grade cards.

i hope you know what i mean because i can not imagine that a 9800 is a real FireGL and that there are no core- or architecture-differences.

make me believe
i think i know what you are trying to tell me now
Flashing your card to FireGL makes no performance difference in gaming. But when running workstation 3d applications (CAD, Maya, etc. etc.) the performance will increase significantly

Ah, also

according to Adrian Da Boss
Quote:
if i'm not wrong, it just enables software optimizations for workstation 3d apps and also allow perfect accuracy for 3d rendering. In gaming, if you look closely, there will be some errors but when it's in firegl mode, there won't be any errors
EDIT : check this review, you can see the difference in 3d rendering between desktop cards and workstation cards http://www.adriansrojakpot.com/Revie...rmedia3_01.htm

of course, i read this article three times.
i have also understood how to flash the BIOS but how can the writer be sure that they have the same cores ?
this is my most important quaestion.

i only "mistrust" this article because i have read this at guru3d:

It won't help to unlock CAD features. The thing that differs RADEONs and FireGLs is th 7th bit of the PCI revision, which is not affected by BIOS and determined only by one of resistors on VPU package. So either do some hardware magic with this resisitor of patch the drivers.

anyway, i will try it and banchmark my system !!!
many people here have done it with success.

IT IS using the same core
Yes, there may be a slight difference between the resistor layout on the core chip. It is still using the same core

@Zidane
ATi Control panel software is for desktop series cards only.
The FireGL X2 256 package comes with drivers and a proggy called HYDRAVISION, which is a dual monitor display setup utility.
Contol panel will not work with a FireGL X2 256.

Edit: I see it now. You are correct sir, and I can't get it to install either. But then again, I don't want it. Rage3D Tweak installed just fine and works.
