Hey...Scott from www.ap0calypse.com here. Just read the great little volt mod guide (and posted at site of course ) and for some reason I feel like voiding warranties now lol (although I think the RAMsinks that are stuck to the card did that already ).

Anyways....what I'm interested in is how much further the mods allowed you to push your card? My card runs 442/392 totally stable with a VGA Silencer and Tm RAMsinks....and I'm thinking if the results are good enough, I will try it on my card.

I plan to do the pencil mod and had one question. Is the pencil line being drawn along the black chip....right where the yellow lines have been drawn in the guide? I assumed so but just wanted to make sure.

Anyways....I'll be watching for results.

Keep up the good work at the site guys....always a good read!!!

that's right, just draw a line on the IC as shown in the pictures

My card stucks at 420MHz without voltmod. After raising the voltage to 1.9v, i managed to run my card at 455MHz but remember, other cards will differ My 9800Pro is a suckass overclocker going to get a cooler upgrade for it soon

Hello everyone!

We just updated The Complete ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Voltage Modding Guide with some advice on the use of tape to protect the graphite layer in the pencil mods!

Default Some questions

I was just curious if anyone here has successfully volt-modded their 9800 pro and could you please share your results?

A question. I have the BBAti 9800 pro with the R360 core, flashed to 9800 XT. I am able to max OC at 430 GPU and 400 Ram w/ VGA silencer and ram sinks.

My card does have the 9800 pro PCB, so i should be able to perform the pencil mod using your method, right? Does the R360 make a difference as far as being able to mod?

Thanks.

You can use the method, as long as your card is using the real 9800Pro PCB

Hey Folks..

Just wantd to post my vmodding adventures on my 9800Pro.

As its goes.. I have a 9800Pro 128 flashed to XT. When I did a check in ATITool, it says I have a r360.

So.. I figure.. cool.. i have an r360 on a 9800Pro PCB.

I then decided to flash back my xt to pro, to see how much the Volt mod can help my stock card.

In order to get my card ready to volt mod I had to remove the waterblock and do some cleaning. After I was done cleaning, I noticed my GPU was really a r350!!! I was shocked!! I didn't realized I was running a r360 bios on a r350 chip. Oh well.

I currently only have one 20k Trimmer to use. So I am going to see how my card performs w/ the DDR mod.

Here is the stock OC for my 9800 Pro w/ Stock cooling 429 / 367. This was obtained using ATITool. I figure ATITool would be the easiest and most unbiased method to look for max stable OC.

On water, my GPU goes to 449.

I'm currently running ATI Tools on my Mem right now.. will keep everyone posted.

SAD

EDIT.

Just completed the MEM vMod and the results are less then exciting.

My mem currently runs at 2.91 w/o vMod @ 367. I went ahead and bump voltage to 3.22v and got only 372. Here a break down of my vMods:

2.91v = 367
2.99v = 368
3.22v = 372

All results using ATITool set for 120sec stable

So from what I see.. my mem is already running as fast as it can. the extra voltage doesn't do much then running my mem hotter and descrease its life. So the trimmer is coming off, and going to GPU next.

Can anyone else offer any suggestions?

SAD

We have mentioned this many times, the only way to check for the core type is by removing the heatsink and nothing else, NOT USING software to check! Because the software merely gets the information from the BIOS. And when you flash a 9800XT BIOS, it will be identified as R360, no matter what core you have. We have even stated this clearly in the article.

Any suggestions? Don't use ATITool! Use the software that is already recommended in the articles.

er.....ATITool may not detect the Max overclock accurately on some cards You'd better test your card on benchmarks or games and see if there is any artifacts

Looks like your card's core is a pretty good overclocker See if it manages to go beyond 500MHz

SuAsDu,

With the R360 bios on your R350 card, you will experince strange artifacting in 3DMark03 I tried it just now Only in test 2 and 3. However, when i run other games, i don't see any strange artifacting like what i saw inside 3DMark03
