KUALA LUMPUR, 16 February, 2015 – The year of the Wooden Goat officially kicked off on the 4th of February, three weeks ahead of the official celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year on the 19th of February. With less time than expected to prepare for the festivities, it may be a good idea to get cracking on your festive to-do list sooner rather than later.

    Spring Clean your Technology!

One important task that has to be completed well before the Chinese New Year begins is a thorough spring cleaning. Every nook and cranny of the home has to be scrubbed, broken furniture and appliances discarded, and dirt swept toward the door to ensure that the Chinese New Year gets off to a clean start.

While sprucing up around the house, you should also remember to dust the cobwebs off of your aging devices. If you’ve had that laptop or smartphone for a few years now, odds are they may be acting up or slowing down – a strong indication that a complete tech spring clean may be in order.

The Tech World is Your Oyster

Thanks to Moore’s Law, the latest computing technology - be they 2 in 1 devices, tablets or smartphones – have progressively become more powerful while consuming less energy. Intel® processors have enabled the creation of a spectacular range of designs and form factors, each one as attractive a replacement for your old device as the next.

While it may be tempting to go all out and get your hands on as many of these cool devices as you possibly can, some designs are better than others at giving you exactly what you need – whether in terms of power, performance, battery life or graphics quality. Here are some pointers on what device you should consider to match your digital demands.

    The Wandering Albatross

If traveling with your computer is important, especially for those of you who work on the go, you should check out our Intel-powered tablets and laptops. We pull no punches with the performance and battery life on these devices – so no matter where you are, you’ll be able to fire up your machine and not worry about looking for a power outlet to keep it charged.

If being mobile is your top priority, check out: Acer’s Switch 10, ASUS Transformer Book T100TAF, the HP Pavilion II x2 and Malaysia’s very own JOI 10 FLIP.

    The Social Butterfly

A laptop when you need it and a tablet when you want it – that’s the 2 in 1 devices. If you’re unsure about purchasing a laptop or a tablet for your next device, why not get both instead? 2 in 1s give consumers the best of both worlds: a tablet mode to consume content and a laptop mode to create. These devices are great for those who want to use their machines at home or at work.

If versatility is what you need, check out: ASUS’ Flip TP300LA, the HP Pavilion II x360, Lenovo’s Yoga 3 Pro and the Acer Switch 10.

    The Workhorse

For those gamers or video and graphics folks, Intel offers awesome performance. From desktops to high-end laptops, we have what you need to help make sure you stay on top of the latest apps and games.

If performance is all that matters to you, check out devices like: the HP Pavilion II x360, Lenovo’s Yoga 3 Pro and the Acer Switch 11.

    The Prudent Ant

If you’re a student without a huge budget, or you just need a computer for the simplest of tasks, there’s no reason to pay for what you don’t want, which is why you’ll be able to get by with the more affordable Intel®-based machines. These devices will be sufficient for your daily tasks like word processing, email, surfing the web and playing simple games – which is great when that’s all you need.

If you’re looking for something that’s light on your wallet, check out: the Lenovo G40-80, Acer’s E5-411, the ASUS X Series and the Lenovo Flex 2.

    The Hoarding Hamster

Some people have difficulty letting go – people have been known to develop very complex attachments to their devices. If your machine isn’t that old and is already beginning to show signs of slowing down – you may still refresh your computer without buying a new one. Doing so can even make your machine feel like brand new. Here are some recommended tips for spring cleaning your computer:

    1. Free up your disk space – there are plenty of different ways to go about this. Uninstall programs you rarely use or haven’t used in a while (especially adware or malware which you have unknowingly installed), moving all your videos, photos and documents to the cloud or external storage and emptying your recycle bin. The amount of free space available on your hard disk can sometimes do wonders for your computer’s performance.

    2. Defrag or format your hard disk – while they are both time consuming processes, doing either can significantly improve the speed of your computer. However, formatting your hard disk can cause problems if you’re unsure about what you’re doing. Be sure to read up about it and back up your important files before attempting it.

    3. Replace your hard disk with a solid state drive (SSD) – SSDs generally perform faster than regular hard disk and replacing your hard disk with one may really make a difference in boot up times and performance. While it may be quite costly to purchase a large SSD for all your storage needs – you can wait for prices to drop or use your SSD as the main drive and store everything else on your old hard disk.

If you’re planning to purchase a new device, be sure to take advantage of all our wonderful promotions and deals we have going on for our PC Refresh Campaign. From trading in your old machine for rebates to winning Air Asia BIG points for free holidays when you buy a new device – it’s always a good time to refresh your personal computing experience!
