KUALA LUMPUR, 14 May 2015 — Microsoft and Telekom Malaysia Berhad (“TM”) today announced a landmark joint effort to deliver cloud-based digital experiences for Malaysians, enabling them to meet the converging demands of life and work.

This collaboration aims to combine the portfolio strength of both companies to deliver integrated services uniquely designed for consumers and businesses. While this helps fulfill TM’s promise of “Life Made Easier” and “Business Made Easier”, it will also provide Microsoft with the opportunity to innovate replicable go-to-market models with Malaysia as a launch pad.

Combining the breadth of Microsoft’s cloud and mobile offerings with TM’s capability in converged connectivity and ICT, this strategic collaboration was made official during an executive discussion followed by the exchange of documents between the two companies in Redmond today attended by Cesar Cernuda, President for Microsoft Asia-Pacific and Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa, Managing Director/Group Chief Executive Officer of TM. The exchange of documents was witnessed by Satya Nadella, Chief Executive Officer of Microsoft Corporation.

Calling this collaboration both significant and exciting, Microsoft and TM highlighted that they will seek to define innovative solutions that address key industry challenges by exploring:

    a. The creation of integrated offerings between existing Microsoft products and TM products.
    b. Joint Go-To-Market (GTM) models to ensure a better reach to all customer segments.

Enabling a digital transformation for consumers and businesses

TM and Microsoft will subsequently engage in further discussions for each of the proposed integrated offerings within the relevant areas as listed below:

    1. Consumers - Malaysian consumers and students expect to engage in an amazing array of activities on a daily basis. They want to work, play, talk, share, collaborate, research, watch, listen and manage their work and life from any device. TM and Microsoft will now seek to bring together integrated offerings designed to best enable this by delivering productivity, entertainment and mobility value propositions for its consumers. This new joint effort will enable TM’s existing 2.2 million UniFi and Streamyx broadband subscribers to now get things done from virtually anywhere, on any device leveraging Microsoft’s market-leading technologies. Options being discussed include Office 365 Home, Surface 2-in-1s, Lumia phones and others.

    2. Small and Medium Enterprises - With TM’s “Business Made Easier” proposition, this strategic collaboration makes TM an even more equipped, end-to-end ICT solution provider for SMEs, offering them not only cloud-based communication, productivity and collaboration tools – but also cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) capabilities via Microsoft’s CRM Online solution.

    3. Large Enterprises and Government - TM and Microsoft also intend to focus on the creation of differentiated enterprise solutions especially on productivity, voice, business intelligence, big data and cloud computing to TM Enterprise and Government segments – providing these entities with agile, responsive and mobile tools for today’s modern business.

    4. Smart Cities – TM and Microsoft plan to bring together a wider scope of smart services and enhanced Internet of Things (IoT) strategies to better serve the public as well as private enterprise within a smart city.

    5. Developers, Start-Ups and Application Builders (Innovation Exchange) - Building Malaysia as an innovation hub for ASEAN is a national vision. TM and Microsoft expect their collaboration will contribute towards accelerating this vision by supporting and enabling the local startup and developer ecosystems in Malaysia through a number of initiatives to provide qualifying entrepreneurs with shared services such as office space, technology, market validation, market access and many more.

Fuelling the national vision for a vibrant start-up ecosystem

Cesar Cernuda concluded: “For more than 20 years, Microsoft has been transforming lives and businesses in Malaysia through technology. It’s clear that consumers and businesses in Malaysia are embracing the benefits of a mobile-first, cloud-first world. Our strategy is to bring the best productivity and platforms to every individual and organization, enabling all Malaysians to make the most out of every moment whether you are at home, work, school or on the move. We are delighted to have a strategic collaboration with TM, who shares our vision and who is committed to delivering unique experiences for their customers in Malaysia.”
