Cyberjaya, 28 May 2015 – Multimedia University (MMU) recently announced the launch of the Dell Innovation Lab in partnership with Dell Malaysia. The opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 12 at MMU’s Cyberjaya campus. This new lab which is a joint initiative of MMU’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics and Dell Malaysia will equip young Malaysians with the tools to thrive in the field of big data and analytics.

Speaking at the launch, MMU’s President, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Rasat Muhamad expressed his thanks to Dell for being one of MMU’s strong industry partner and for contributing to the ICT research and development infrastructure of MMU. “I am excited to launch the Dell Innovation Lab which will be part of MMU’s Faculty of Computing and Informatics. “The amount of data is increasing exponentially and our information behavior is changing faster than the information systems. Investments in information systems, like this lab, will enable users to find the patterns in the data. Identifying patterns of customer behavior is critical in achieving personalization for customers and is crucial to the future of commerce,” said Paul Walsh, chief information officer, Dell. “By collaborating with MMU to open this lab, we are fostering the next generation of data scientists who will be able to find the patterns in the data, communicate their findings and ultimately influence how organizations run their business.”

“In 2014, MMU made it to the QS Top 200 World University Ranking by Subject in Computer Science and Information Systems, signifying our excellence in the field of Information Technology and Computing. We hope that we can further strengthen our position by working more closely with Dell,” added Prof. Dato’ Dr. Muhamad Rasat Muhamad. “Previously, we partnered with Dell in activities such as Big Data Hackathons, technology updates by Dell to MMU’s faculty and postgraduate opportunities for Dell’s staff. Hence, we look forward to creating more successful collaborations with Dell in the near future especially in the areas of talent development,” he concluded.
