The latest cooler from Scythe is a relatively innocuous-looking heatpipe cooler. But beneath that lies a cooler with great potential. Come and see why the new Scythe Katana heatpipe cooler is a great for both quiet operation as well as maximum cooling! Link : Scythe Katana CPU Heatpipe Cooler Review!
Seems like a nice cooler. Too bad about the screws though. I don't think the smaller contact surface (compared to the heat spreader) is an issue at all. The hot chip underneath isn't much more than 1x1cm, and to get an even better cooling one might remove the heatspreader to allow the heatsink to have direct contact with the chip, thus eliminating two thermal layers. (I haven't seen this done on an Athlon though, it's fairly simple with a P4.) Wrt the fan it's obvious that Scythe has opted for silent run. Ball bearings would have added another dB, and a more potent fan would add several dB. For anybody interested it's also very simple to mount any fan(s) desired. Cheers Olle
AS5 Installation Just wanna know how u install the AS (perfectly) as in the katana article? I tried a few time on my freezer64 but cant get that good result... Any tips?
AS5 Installation I tried already, but the AS seems to be very thick...very hard to spread around.. what's u're installation environment like? I think installation in hot place will help cause the As will tend to "melt" a bit...
