Right after the Internet was set abuzz with news that the new ATI Radeon HD X2000 series of graphics cards will be launched on May 14th, NVIDIA launches a preemptive strike by launching a new flagship card, the GeForce 8800 Ultra.

Designed to replace the GeForce 8800 GTX as the new top-end graphics card from NVIDIA, the GeForce 8800 Ultra seems destined to be the card that kills the ATI Radeon HD X2900 before it is even released. However, the picture isn't as rosy as it seems.

Read on and find out why the new NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra will not be a card we have all been waiting for.

I just read the review, is it some sort of new technology, that I do not see any vertex shaders informations on any Gf 8xxx series cards? It seems like now they have this stream processors thingy, how does it differ? At first I was shocked as some shop label it wrongly in their pricelist at geforce8800gtx has 128 pixel pipelines

Eh, where have you been la? Things have changed since the GeForce 8800 GTX was released. It will be the same for all DirectX 10 cards from now on.

Those are NOT pixel pipelines. They are stream processors, which can be used to do texture, vertex and physics operations.

Check out the Technology Report on the GeForce 8800 GTX.
