    Hi!
Is there any difference between onboard Analog Devices SPDIF out and Asus SPDIF Out bracket (both optical)

    It bypasses the codec ?
    Is the sound better?

    Thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, neither would make a difference since they both bypass the codec and DAC.

Technically you shouldn't hear and difference, but there might be a tiny difference.

    hmm

    ok

then why does asus or other motherboard have an spdif out (bracket) if they already have a spdif out (onboard sound)

    what's the point?

If I'm not mistaken, that SPDIF bracket should be for your external sound card...

I just checked the manual. Both are connected to the onboard audio chip.

If I'm not mistaken, the optional SPDIF bracket is to provide you with an additional SPDIF optical output, should you require another to connect to another device.

Yup, it IS an additional SPDIF out. :D

You can use it if you need to deliver SPDIF optical output to two different devices at the same time.
