main purpose edit our own bios?
    performance increasement?

in a way.. yes, you can say that performance increase would be the motivation to edit you BIOS...

but mainly.. it's to get 'hidden' BIOS settings that the manufacturers hide from the normal BIOS screen. The settings are there but you'll need to manually edit and enable those options.. thus then allowing you to tweak those settings...
