Yup, it's on LGA771. Aiihhhh... We put LGA775. Will correct that in the next update. :wall: :wall: Thanks for letting us know. :thumb:

Ah, I can't agree on this one! Too sweeping statements! :naughty:

There's needs also. They have designed computers for people's needs. The highest end Cores are not only for typewriters, but they are serious number-crunchers, latest gamers, and intensive tasks like converting photos/editing/whatever. There are people who get those processors not just because of fast, but they might need to save a lot of time to do their work. Remember, time is money too! A Quad-Core will work miracles especially in research programmes like those fluid-mechanics simulation system. The scientists *needs* their results fast too if they have to.

If one is using the computer primarily for IM and email and some stuff, even an old Athlon XP will just work fine. I have a old Vaio given by my cousin and it works so well in surfing the net. Or even a PIII 800MHz computer/256MB RAM will cut it. Well, I can't just say that I need only my Vaio, since I'm also a part-time shoestring gamer. So, I also have an Athlon X2 to fulfil my (part-time) gaming needs.

On top of that, a PII 350 isn't going to help in CS:CZ. The system requirements stated at *least* a P3 500MHz for optimum operation since this game is run on a slightly improved GoldSource (HL1) engine. And, those Steam platform games require SSE instructions too to run - those PIIs are lacking of them. :D

Desktop CPU Comparison Guide Rev. 5.2

The guide has just been updated!

There are so many CPU models that it has become quite impossible to keep up with the different models or even remember their specifications.

Therefore, we decided to compile this guide to provide an easy reference for those who are interested in comparing the specifications of the various desktop CPUs in the market, as well as those already obsolescent or obsolete.

Currently covering 646 desktop CPUs, this comprehensive comparison will allow you to easily compare up to 18 different specifications for each and every CPU.

    Front side bus and FSBHHT

The Intel CPU comparison guide lists front side bus speed, but the AMD guide lists FSBHHT speed. Sorry for the simple question, but how is FSBHHT defined here? And why is this only relevant for AMD processors, but not Intel processors?

    Thanks.

Because current AMD processors use HyperTransport technology, Intel is still using the aging Front Side Bus in current products and plans to use Quickpath for Nehalem which doubles the bandwidth and will (Along with hyperthreading, core improvements and the integrated memory controller) contribute to increased performance. Still Hypertransport has a few advantages over Quickpath but ultimately it's the CPU that matters the most.

These interconnect technology become increasing important for scaling of multiple Cores/CPUs/Boards as they dictate the pathways that communication between these components takes place. This is why AMD still has the 8-way server performance crown and why Intel worked so hard for something similar.

First of all, I must say that the TechARP CPU Comparison list (and GPU) is great! Very usefull information and easy to find.

But one CPU seems to be missing: AMD Athlon 64 4000+ AM2.

I would post you URLs, but I can't untill 5 posts...

Luckily CPU is easy to find from AMDs website, "Find and Compare products". There it says 62W F3 revision Orleans core.

Just a quick note, the AMD Phenom 8750 runs at 2400MHz (not 2300MHz) and also a 12x multi (not 11.5x)

Thanks for the great guide :)
