According to a little bird in DiGi, the Apple iPad will only be released in Malaysia sometime in August or September. This is pretty reliable news, as the little bird himself couldn't wait that long and bought his iPad from beyond our lovely shores.

Yes, we all heard about that anonymous tweet that Maxis and DiGi will be launching the Apple iPad in July. Well, hate to break it to you guys but Apple had already announced the nine(9) countries that will receive the iPad in July and they are Austria, Belgium, Hong Kong, Ireland, Luxembourg, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand and Singapore.

We suspect that the person is probably working for Maxis or DiGi and planted this false information in order to stem the flow of parallel-imported iPads. Why pay more for a parallel-imported iPad if a local iPad is coming soon?

Well, it looks like the iPad won't be coming so soon to Malaysia. The earliest would be late August, but a more realistic date would be early or mid September.

One more thing you guys should be aware of. Despite news that the 3G version of the Apple iPad will be sold through Maxis and DiGi, all iPads come with international warranty and that includes the 3G models.

I spoke to someone at Apple and was informed that it will NOT be carrier-locked. That doesn't preclude Maxis or DiGi from offering special 3G broadband packages with their iPads but at least you won't have to worry about the iPad's warranty, especially if you bought yours overseas, or from a parallel importer.
