The Canny Ong rape and murder case has virtually gripped the attention of the nation even until today. It has also thrown a spotlight on the crime of RAPE. This has actually led to the government increasing the penalty for rape.

Unfortunately, it has caused many people to come up with all sorts of "solutions" to prevent this incident from ever happening again. Solutions like equipping shopping complexes and public car parks with tons of close circuit cameras and employing legions of security guards, etc...

You will also note the sheer PROLIFERATION of tips on how girls can defend themselves and exhortations by various parties for girls to learn self-defence or better still, how to castrate a horny male in 5 seconds... or something to that effect!

Naturally, being a sex crime, it has also led to certain parties condemning the "sick" and "depraved" nature of all "MEN". There are also many who blamed the prevalence of illegal pornographic material as the cause of such sadistic behaviour. These are just some of the many accusations being thrown around in the media and by the public.

Sad to say... All this is NOT going to solve anything at all.

    Mark my words.

Within 6 months, there won't be anyone watching the thousands of close circuit cameras installed in the large shopping complexes and car parks.

Within 6 months, there won't be any legion of security guards peeling their eyes for potential rapists.

Within 6 months, it will be business as usual for the rapists and rapist-wannabes.

    Why?

Cause the GOVERNMENT and the public have not quite seem to have understood anything in the Canny Ong case. That's only my opinion, of course and you are most welcomed to argue this with me! :)

But from what I can tell, they seem to be missing the point. The crux of the issue. So, if they are barking up the wrong tree, how the heck can they solve anything??? :wall: :wall: :wall:

Why am I saying that they are barking up the wrong tree?

Well, IMHO, the Canny Ong case isn't as simple as it seems. Let's take a look at some points.

    1. Canny was a black-belt Taekwondo expert so she was WELL prepared to defend herself.

    2. She let the suspect drive her car!

    3. Both of them drove around town for 4-5 hours!

    4. They stopped twice and she never took the opportunity to run away!

    5. When they were stopped by the police, she did NOT even tried to signal to them that she was in danger!

    6. The suspect actually came OUT of the car to ask for directions!!! She could have easily have ran out and SCREAMED for help.. but no, she did NOT do that.

Isn't it obvious that the Canny Ong case isn't as simple as it seems???

Unfortunately, the government and the public are obviously avoiding the issue, either intentionally or unintentionally. It seems to me that everyone prefers to label this as a neat rape and murder case, instead of delving deeper.

Perhaps, they suspect they might not like what they find. Perhaps the case is a useful tool for certain parties to further their agenda.

But one thing's for sure... Everyone is doing Canny Ong an injustice by not following the trial of evidence she left and finding out WHAT EXACTLY happened to her.

I welcome any discussion on the Canny Ong case here. Doesn't matter if you agree with me or not! :D

I think she knows the guy. But I don't think the guy that's under custory is the real culprit. Things are not that simple. So many holes in this case.

there is a certain word in the english dictionary that will answer all your questions adrian. Its under the letter C - Charmed - and not the 3 aaron spelling babes on tv. You can be fully prepared for anything, but one wrong move and before you know it, you're just a passenger staring death in the face and helpless to do anything whatsoever. It might be the first time such a thing is coming to light, but believe me, it ain't the first. You can't close a case with the reason being "kena jampi" or whatever that can't be proven with concrete evidence, hence you get a lot of unbelievable excuses being brought up.

The one and only solution is never ever be alone in a secluded place. Bring a friend, bring a dog or bring a pet goldfish. Why the fish? Fishes are supposed to block such crap or so i've heard, no idea how true that is. Either way, best way is don't be dumb enough to walk to a secluded area, especially at night alone, whether you be a guy or a girl, black belt in karate or loaded up with ak47's ala John Rambo. It is the subtle things that will undo you, not the obvious things.

All i can say now is let her rest in peace. And may whoever it is responsible for the crimes be dealth with swiftly one way or the other. While it isn't right to judge a person until he is proven guilty, it is so obvious that he was involved. The fact he was seen in the car with her, the fact that he knew details about the murder scene etc. His wife claims he is innocent and that the truth will be revealed in court. My two cents worth, she is trying to get into the limelight, aka lewinsky.

Tough luck, I doubt that we'll ever hear about the real situation as many parties are sure to try and smother and douse the whole issue. We can only hope that one day true justice will be served, whether it be legal, or vigilante justice. :(

Anway, my thoughts about the case - true, there are many holes in the case but I can round up everything to three possibilities:

    - standard rape and murder case; she was scared stiff
    - more complicated murder case; she may have been drugged and unable to fend for herself
    - there's some cloak and dagger stuff going on; we won't know until we dig up her past and try to find any skeletons hiding in her closet

Also the first thing that struck me when I first heard about the kidnapping was that it was very ironic - it happened at an area marked as "kawasan selamat Bangsar". Sad, just plain sad.

Again, hope that justice is served some way or another.

ehhh. there's no proof that he's the rapist though. he may just be come guy who picked up the stuff.

unless they do some CSI stuff blablablablbalblablabla

my points were all mentioned in the other thread. and i agree with se7en. there are non-martial-artist ladies that gave more trouble to the abductor than anything else.

you. there is a possibility she was stunned in some way. :( or given drugs.

if any of you read the Sunday Mail, you may have noticed the perpetrator is a Malay. and we've read a lot of times about malays raping their daughters all that. i don't mean this to be racist, but intelligent discussion will help

I dunno about that. It may be caused by race itself, genes, how they were bought up, lack of sex education, 'nafsu', or simply the fact that there are more Malays compared to other races, thus more case being looked up.

Would it make any difference at all if the rapist was a englishman with a Dr. in front ?? Or a Chinese, oxford educated with a Tan Sri. ? Or a poor indian with a a/l in front ? Rape is rape, no matter who, what or how it was done, it's rape all the same.

And just for a joke, Chinese rarely get caught for rape because we pay, therefore making it a trade.

i dunnoler, but if you read the court proceedings in the newpaper, 70-80% of them are malays caught in rape cases of someone. this was pointed out by a malay teacher  to us. and i don't mean that what race rapes who is te point. my point is an observation that malays always appear wan.

goldfish, i guess you've not been really following the case as much as i have. He was actually spotted around 12am somewhere in kelana jaya, in the car with canny. (see above where adrian mentioned that she kept quiet even when stopped by the police). Anyways, what happened was the police asked the guy for his and her IC (common procedure when it comes to the Police to check your IC and ask questions later). Anyways, what happened was the guy actually took of and the two police in their trusty ex5 had to eat dust... but at that time, they didn't know about the kidnapping, and they already had his IC! Come to think of it, they had his and her IC, the girl was missing for like 2 day - she was reported missing the same day, and they finally arrested him some two days after her body was found. Talk about effeciency.

He is the person, but why he did it, and so on is still very open for debate. Nobody knows, only he does. According to the papers, it seems he wasn't that kind of a person. But as always, humans' are a very very mysterious species. There is always two sides to the coin. Let the law and the evidence say what happened. And just hope that unlike most of the cases before this, the truth is actually revealed and not just die off with passing time.

Chinese is rich, so they pay for sex because don't want to lose face by raping.

Malay is adequate, but is bloody lazy so they grab whatever is nearest and keep the money for bail.

Indians are too poor to even consider bail, so rather jack off lor..

    p/s: joke, nothing else intended.

Frankly, things dont go soo easy.. coz look at her husband pictures during the send off? he was like moody. but he dont seem to have any red eyes...

What i suspect is the family knew whats going on behind.

When i loose my late gf in an accident.. i just cry... and cry... for 3 days.. i did fly back to her hometown. to clear up her things. and return the clothes she left at my place... I slept at her room. and that night... i dreamt of her.... and same night i saw her... my god. ...

sigh... this case maybe too deep and too complicating to understand.

se7en, thanx for reminding me. actually i did keep up with the case. and yes i forgotten about the part where she handed the IC over........which debunks my point. :D

but it could be done on other cases. sorry for my not remembering properly.

Oh yes... There has been many reports of people getting charmed. Heck, even my own uncle was "charmed" once to hand over his savings. :(

She could have been charmed, I'll admit. But how likely is that? The perpetrator does not seem to have that ability. Of course, the police claimed he was a serial rapist... but there is now evidence that they knew each other...

Hmm... I don't know. It just doesn't look as simple as it seems.

In any case, the steps taken by the government and the public are IMHO plain reactionary. No one's seems bothered to delve deeper and trying to find the true cause of rapes in our society.

Installing more cameras or hiring more guards is NOT going to prevent rape. They may make it harder for rapists to get hold of their victims but sooner or later, they are going to get someone. That's a sad fact.

And the longer prison term? What's the use IF rapists and murderers DO get away, often with help from people in POWER? I'm sure many of you have heard or personally seen this happening in universities all around Malaysia.

I think Malaysians must learn to be honest with themselves and try to learn from this issue. Covering it up or trying to quickly close the book on this one isn't doing Canny any justice. Just my 2 sen. :(

actually there's nothing to shout about in Canny's case. there's been plenty of cases such as these.......it wasn't even highlighted like this.

there were cases where a teenage girl goes into a toilet to have her door broken by a guy and raped in the toilet. why wasn't it brought into major concern?

and there are plenty of other murder cases, why weren't they brought into major concern?

is it just because she's from america(malaysian but in america)? and that she's an Analyst from IT sector? is it because m'sian govt afraid of what US might think of them if they don't look like they're serious on this issue?

    share your points frens!!!

I don't know why but I think most M'sians think quite lowly of their police force... Including myself. I think the police is just taking the easy way out by claiming it as a rape & murder case when it's obvious there's more than meets the eye...

One thing I admire about them, though... Is that they seem to be excellent sharpshooters. Reading from papers, whenever a shootout occured, NONE of the police ever get injured and ALL of the criminals are killed...
