These tubes are actually transferring wads of cold hard cash into the inner parts of the complex. The workers, after 10 pm, they gonna count the money inside the complex. Looks like they counted at least a more than a few hundred thousands (closing to one million ringgit) earned every day. I've not much grouses about IKEA, but started to have some more ever since my friend and my brother works there part time. and worse, they have already sacked them because the IKEA needed more than just part-time workers. I still have the IKEA safety little red booklet I once grabbed it back in 1998. Apparently before they subcontract these furnitures to some other place, most of the furnitures are from Sweden. And from the book, they wrote that they have thoroughly tested every inch of the furniture. But not nowadays. The staff there are overworked and tired. The quality of the furniture is degrading too, bit by bit.
Oh really?? That would be quite ironic. Well, IMHO, there is "conservation" and there is conservation. Not to go off-topic, I'll use IKEA furniture as an example. One problem I have with IKEA furniture is most of them are quite flimsily-constructed. Yes, it's good to save the environment by using plywood and chipboard/fibreboard, but not if it requires you to change your furniture every few years. In a way, buying good-quality furniture can be a good way of conserving nature. Our society has gone from a heirloom-mentality to use-and-throw. The rapid progress of technology has forced most of us to build cheap and upgrade often. However, we do not have to do that with furniture. IMHO, buy good furniture and stick with them. That will help save more trees.
Well, agreed too, not only the furniture, but computers. Long time ago one (1) computer is considered as "well-off" family. But nowadays, people can have more than 3 computers, and some people even bought some computer parts for super-overclock hobby! It's known that some IKEA furniture are flimsy, but some are really sturdy. The kitchen cabinets are modular, and very good compared to the other one. One of my kitchen shelf (one block) has the lower part of the door started to peel because the moisture level of my kitchen is high.
They do have good ideas, which is why I bought some of their kitchen cabinet components for my own kitchen. The rest aren't cheap though. I got a carpenter to build the entire kitchen using nyatoh wood (Palaquium spp.) for less than what it would cost me to buy and install the chipboard panels from IKEA. No more worries about the laminate peeling off after some time and having it replaced. IKEA has solid wood panels though, but the price was just too steep for me. Would really recommend solid wood if you do go for IKEA anyway. UNLESS you intend on changing your kitchen design every few years.
The stuff in IKEA are always overpriced, and not even I can afford any of the (beautifully) crafted furniture, but many people always come there and see the furniture, and usually overpopulate the cashiers with the other small stuff like jugs, cups, dispensers and tealights!
I do agree that alot of their cheap looking furniture are overpriced. I guess, it is better to spend more on those quality furniture that will last you a long long long long long long long long long long time for generations! One-shot $ is more worth it. and your great great great children might praise u for your smart choice
I like the IKEA during Christmas period - lotsa nice sales there. I'm thinking of buying a small christmas tree there too, but they ain't selling any of those mini plastic ones. I admit that the batteries, the little bulbs, trinkets and toys look weird, but they are easy to be purchased and the quality is just in between good and okay. Those kiddy lamps are really cute and nice too - they can be placed in the hallways instead of kiddy bedrooms too. I once tried to shove my hand into one of those lamp and I cannot get my hand burned no matter how I tried. That's cool safety.
They should have those touch-activated lamps. Anyway, back to topic... I really wonder why the chair broke. Can't really be because of improperly installed screws, right?
That could be the manufacturing defect of every 1/10000 chairs they made perhaps? Maybe humidity or improper installation procedure? Sometimes people tend not to tighten the screws or overtighten it.
Hmm.. Surely not... I mean, even if it was not installed properly, the front legs should not have just come off so easily. Or could they...
Aaaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh!!! I feel so frust today. Uber frust! Never been so frust before. Since it's about Ikea stuff, well I have to vent it HERE. I bought a computer table from Ikea 5 months ago, and it works well to me. The table is strange, the place for the monitor is slightly slanting downwards. Never mind about that, it's for the CRTs. But yesterday I thought maybe I can push it upwards for the accomodation of my another new LCD to replace my old CRT... ...but NOT. That table is not upgradable. Not even modular. So I'm pretty stuck at that slanting platform. Heck, I can't put my LCD on it... it'll fall down and break it into a million pieces. My pa thought of hacking that platform and weld it. But i thought, it'll be pretty much wasting time and it could be unstable.
Should've gotten the Jerker It's a very modular computer table, solidly built...one of the few products worth buying from Ikea IMO Mine currently has just the basic 2 tiers but I might consider adding shelves at the side to accomodate bookshelf speakers. Yeah, that Jerker is my dream table. I should have purchased it during the major discounts... Ah... never mind - at least I still have a welding set and a L-joint... time for some mod.
Oh.. I know which table you bought. Well, it's definitely not suitable for LCDs... Yeah, the Jerker is a good table to buy from IKEA. But wait for the price to drop. Or visit the As-Is section. Sometimes, you can get a good unit at a 30% discount there.
Yeah... that's why I wanted that Jerker table so badly... damn that thing I have now couldn't hold any LCDs. How annoying it is... since I have bought a cool Samsung LCD yesterday but couldn't enjoy it now. Now where could I get L-joints so that I can at least push the stupid monitor platform back to 180 degrees flat?
