Counterfeit Intel Retail Processors

    Everyone knows that Intel retail processors not only come with a certified cooler but also a much longer warranty. However, you must first be sure that you have a genuine retail processor.

    Some greedy retailers have been selling counterfeit Intel boxed (retail) processors to make more money. So be sure to check out this handy guide on how to spot a genuine Intel boxed processor and avoid the counterfeit units.

    This is a good article and I think a "should read". I got this E6550 really cheap 140CAD and checked the contents when I got it and the box again right now.

    Quickest thing I noted and found looking at the box is the sticker with the bar code. You can't miss the difference so a good thing to look for on purchase :D

    Since these processors are from OEM, can you check by looking at the S-Spec codes? Because retail and OEM should have different codes.

    I think both retail and OEM processors are using the same S-Specs.

    authentic or not doesn't matter to me anymore, the stock hsf is still unused & i lost the receipt (-_-)"

    LOL!! Please don't remind me of my dead CPU. My Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 died just like that without warning. I wasn't even overclocking it!!! :wall: :wall: :wall:
