Does anyone have experience with this HDD ? I have seen both good and bad reviews so I'm kinda debating on getting it .
Get one. They're pretty good drives and Seagate's warranty is very reliable. If you're still hesitant, go for the Western Digital wd5000aaks. Both of these drives are excellent.
Check the terms of the warranty for limitations and make sure the company is going to be around for a while. I wouldn't trust a lifetime warranty from XYZ electronics lol
Seagate's reliable as far as my personal experience goes, but Western Digital seems to be pretty good too and cost less. Most of their drives have a 3 year warranty.
samsung, hitachi, seagate, WD, they all make reliable drives. reliability depends alot on handling. personally, i think the most important criteria is the density of the platter. pick the latest, biggest one. eg samsung 750g, or WD 640g.
Yeah, platter density is important for raw read-write performance. But remember that higher drive capacity does not mean higher platter density. Higher capacity with fewer platters = higher platter density.
Hitachi's drives were for a period, notorious for breaking down, but I think these issues no longer exist.
