Well, we have a few Core 2 ES processors here. They are all locked. So I think they started doing it for the entire Core 2 series.
Before you buy one... you better read this - Tech ARP - Why You Should AVOID Core 2 Duo Engineering Samples Rev. 3.0
thanks adrian for help but if you have too many of them it would not be end of earth if you send one to me ahhaahhahahhaa
Its worse to buy that, Maybe in the Future, If i will purchase a processor or even a motherboard, I will request that the processor is not an ES!
Hmm, is it me or actually only AMD has cheaper unlock multiplier processors I think like most replies here..only the X(for dual core) and QX (quad core) series processor of Intel has unlock multiplier
I haven't found a way but there must be. There are extreme series CPU's similar to the others in almost every aspect except unlocked multiplier. This is not in the die its in the firmware
Generally, if you buy retail PCs, they will not give you an ES processor. ES processors will not come with any warranty paperwork.
Well, except for the QX and X series, all Core 2 processors are hard-locked. AFAIK, you cannot unlock them...
