Will a hard drive immersed in non-conductive fluid or oil work properly?

Can a hard drive immersed in non-conductive liquid work properly?

    Yep checked that out too Mike when I get my new drive this Maxtor is taking up diving :p

    Actually its not a Maxtor forgot that went into a machine I sold to work it was 80G. So Mike lets see if this 40G Seagate SpinPoint can Scuba Dive ... more details coming soon ....

    I think all drives can scuba dive as long as you sealed them up with breather tubes and only soak them in non-conductive fluids like cooking oil or engine oil.

    Oh yeah, it would be good to test the temperature difference if air-cooled or liquid-cooled.

    Wow.. You went for a canola + sunflower blend? That's gotta be a little expensive. :mrgreen:

    Good for the heart but not so sure about the HDD! :haha: :haha:

    Hee hee cheapest I could find in that size I didn't need a gallon jug of vegetable oil for anything :D

    LOL but won't work :shifty:

    One filled with bad sectors will confuse the hypothesis if the drive fails. Was it the drive or was it the oil :think:
