first what a bullshit from powercolor
they are puting 512DDR5 on cards and call it as 2Gb models of DDR3 LOL
and seling it for much higher price (~250$ usd)
and card dont even have higher resoults in fact it haves lower
    performance than regular 4850 512ddr3 (180$ usd)
what a load of crap if you ask me

    I think you mean they replaced the 512MB GDDR5 with 2GB of GDDR3. :D

it dose not have to be typo error
    mostly because 512drr5 i realy like/same as 2048Mb of ddr3

    There's a typo on 512MB. It's supposed to be 2GB.

All 4850 (reference card) comes with GDDR3, while 4870 comes with GDDR5.

As for the reason why 2GB is slower than 512MB, answer is simple. The RAM clockspeed is actually slower, and most games will not benefit from the additional RAM buffer.

know and i dont see a point of making a gpu with 2Gb of ddr3 on it
1Gb is also too much but it will benefit only video decoding/encoding
so why did they put 2Gb
maybe only to get more cash for gpu that dose not haves enough power

Lol that's pretty messed up. HIS and Sapphire are much more reliable in all aspects.

    well that is true unix

It will only benefit games which requires tons of RAM, especially at high res, high detail, crazy AA settings.

maybe will see in the future

Nope we won't. Core will be too slow 1 year later.

Almost certainly a typo. I don't think you can actually put 512MB GDDR5 memory and 1.5GB extra GDDR3 memory on the same card.

Plus, it's useful in marketing the card. Heh.. :D

heh, people make mistaken you know..Guess what? When Gainward's 4850 was release over here, they make a huge printing mistaken on their box. (i saw it :haha:) It says 4850 with 512mb DDR3 and then on the lower right side of the box, there is a huge GDDR5 Logo :p
