Seagate FreeAgent Go 500gb disassembly = SAMSUNG HD upgrade for laptop - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion .. I just have to post it here ..
Well .. 2.5" 500GB would only be used in notebook and external due to the price/GB is higher. So which OEM supply 500GB notebook already? I doubt they can use the same excuse twice.
Exactly. I don't really see a high demand for OEM for 1TB at that time especially when the price/GB is not very good also.
I have a question here You know those HDD like WD Passport, they said the internal HDD cannot be changed, is it true? I mean, the internal HDD, is still like any other 2.5 HDD right?
Yeah, you void the warranty if you open up the case. But internally, the hard drive should be easily replaceable. That is, if they don't gum up the internals like Apple did to their iPods.
I hope the WD Passport I bought can be opened up easily. There isn't really a screw anywhere around to begin with. Maybe I have to take a better look at it. All the firmware is with the enclosure, and none in the HDD right?
For WD Passport, you can replace it .. at your own risk, no more warranty. When you open up the passport, is nearly guaranty that the side clip holding the passport together would crack. Why would you want to replace it in a first place? If you want and external enclosure is very cheap buying the enclosure itself.
Seagate used samsung drive? that was surpising when seagate is one of the hdd manufacturer. seems like samsung got a deal with them.
