You can definitely get 2x2GB 1066 sticks for less than 50 bucks. Easy. I think this is the one I am using right now. Newegg.com - OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory
I am also looking at it for that any other overclocking I would do on the CPU would be to get a 333 FSB, and any CPU I would install would be the same. So, wouldn't it be more cost effective to get 667 RAM?
DDR2 800 would be the bare minimum for me. Most motherboards have dividers already to run DDR2 800 on just about any stock FSB. That and it gives you some headroom for overclocking (1:1). Plus, DDR2 800 is marginally cheaper than DDR2 667 (no one really uses 667 much now days - again because a lot of mobos can now run @ DDR2 800 @ stock FSB). Though again personally, I would just spend a few bucks more on some 1066 (RAM really is super cheap - DDR2 that is) and have even more headroom/speed. 2x2GB kits: ~44 bucks for 1066 ~38 bucks for 800 ~40 bucks for 667 Not exactly a hard choice.
Aren't you an OCZ fan? Lol, nothing wrong with that though. The other thing is that I have a friend who works as Frys Electronics, and doesn't mind applying his employee discount for me. Appre3ntally the agreement is that he can use it on friends and family as he sees fit. But as long as I can get 5-5-5-15 timings or better, I'll be happy. And I probably will clock the RAM to 333 MHz for a 1:1 ratio.
LOL! Pure coincidence. I just linked the cheapest reasonably good timing RAM that I saw at newegg. Though OCZ and GSkill are some of my favorite vendors (outstanding after sales support).
Now how about these options? I have no issues getting 2 1GB sticks sepretally. G.Skill 2 2GB sticks G.Skill 2GB Stick Or better yet, and more specific, how about this set? Corsair 4GB Dual Channel Kit
I got the Corsair from Frys, and I got the same results. Memtest passes, but using too much RAM in the IntelBurnTest causes a failure.
