You swapped the Cat 5e cables with Cat 6 cables?

Was there a big difference in throughput?

You have a very extensive network, considering only two people stay at your place?

The biggest issue was due to very poor quality cable. It was labled as cat 5e, but not able to handle 1000Mbps. So I decided to buy AMP cat 6 cable to replace the whole 15 meter to future proof it. And I bought a new gigabit switch in my room so everyone can enjoy gigabit speed.

Talking about my place? No I have more than 2.

How much did you pay for the AMP Cat 6 cables on a per foot/meter basis?

    RM150 for 30 meters!!! :faint:

Why would you need full 1000mbps? As in your hard disk can support that transfer rate?

File transfers are a lot faster than 100mbps. True you won't hit full speed, but it is still faster than 100.

It's a variable that is removed so now the bottle neck is your computer's I/O.

A FLAC album takes seconds to transfer to my home server. Cat6 cable from my pc to switch. Cat6 cable from switch to home server.

Hardware RAID0 on my end (if that matters) to software quasi-RAID on the WHS.

Same file, same PC, transferring to the same server/location, cat5e cable plugged into the router (100base).

(off topic: lol Chai, care to guess what racecar I have on my wallpaper? :p ).

Yeah, Gigabit transfering over gigabit would be much faster than 100mb/s. Transferring at ~10 Megabyte/s is slow. I wish my laptop had a gigabit port :(
