Hmm.. Lemme double check those results. I will remove them if they are from the x64 version. Thanks for keeping an eye out. :thumb:

Ahh.. That's true. Well, I'm no coder myself. The most I can do is modify the batch file. If you can help us take it to the next step, that would be fantastic.

I can write a small program that you could insert in the batch file which checks the validity of the software (DGDecode, x264 and Avisynth).
It would simply return values that you can evaluate in the batch file with "Errorlevel" conditionals.

Is there a way we can communicate via PM?

Did you get the mail I sent you? My first mail was apparently rejected because of the attachment but the second should have reached you.

PS. I have avisynth in h:\work\video\avisynth and I was forced to remove stupid check "if exist "%PROGRAMFILES%\AviSynth 2.5"" from bat file. I know couple of guys who are not able to run your test, now I understand that this is - because of the same mistakes in the bat file. Sorry for bad english.

    Bulldozer

Can't wait to see bulldozer's performance on this bench

"Although the chip fails to keep up with Intel cores in the SuperPI test, as we have already seen, it pulls ahead in other tests. For example, in x264 encoding tests, Bulldozer scores 136fps in the first pass and 45fps in the second pass, whereas the Core i7 2600K manages 100fps and 36fps respectively."

    Sounds promising.

Hi. I've tested some CPU's and came to conclusion that your benchmark is not quite realistic.
I tested my Pentium DC E5400 and a friend's Core i5 2500K at the same frequency with your benchmark and the difference was something like 200 percent... But then I tested them again using a source that was 2 minutes in length but SD, 720x480p and these settings:

--preset slower --crf 18, nothing else

and this time the difference was almost linear to that of the difference in number of cores.

Correct if I'm wrong, but your choice of settings and source do not reflect the realistic process of encoding. First - your source is too short to allow for any serious encoding complexity, second - your settings are too "easy" and not effective, they tend to increase the difference in performance between expensive/new and cheaper/older parts. Instead of 2-pass VBR you should be using CRF and more complex analysis/compression algorithms. Your settings produce a more "simple" encode, which may be suitable for majority of users, yes, but for sake of experiment you shouldn't be using those, as they distort the whole picture of relative performance.

Your current benchmark looks more like a marketing thing(IMHO), to stimulate people to buy [more expensive]/[new] stuff than it is a scientific experiment.

My proposal is to introduce an additional test, using a 2-5 minutes length progressive (SD or HD) source and settings like these

    --preset slower --crf 18

and leaving on auto things like --keyint.
That way people with understanding of the process could see the (real) difference in performance.
