After a hiatus of almost two years, we finally broke ground on this house's renovation. It's going to be a major renovation because the original house had a very bad and cramped layout. We didn't like the previous owner's "renovation" either. So, we plan to tear down most of the house and rebuild it so it would be a little bigger, have an extra room, an extra bathroom and a much better layout. Anyhow, check out how they renovate houses here in Malaysia! ---------------- In this first set, they just started demolishing part of the house - the roof, the stainless steel grills and awnings. FYI, this was not the house's original design. The previous owner was a Chinese contractor who really liked stainless steel...
More pictures! 1 - These used to be columns supporting the balcony. 2 - The storm before the calm. They jackhammered the concrete... 3 - The next day, it's like a war zone! 4 - They brought in an excavator to dig these deep holes! 5 - View from the edge of the demolished balcony. These holes are where they will be building the house's footing.
This is how they build the footing. 1 - They place a steel girder in the deep hole they dugged earlier. 2 - So many footings... 3 - They then add a vertical steel girder 4 - Then they pour in some cement...
whoa! at least 5 months.. hahaha.. here.. just for laugh S M Ong: Storifying the Daniel Ong-neighbour 'saga': Have some 'popcorn' (and a cupcake)
Hahaha.. Looks like an interesting spat. I will have to get some popcorn and digest it! On this issue, I've actually talked to both my next door neighbour and his new tenant, as well as the neighbour behind about my renovations. They all seem pretty cool about it. I've even given them my number to call in case my contractors get too noisy or something. Although all that isn't really necessary as long as I'm keeping to the local council law, I think it's the only decent thing to do as neighbours. I would hate to live with a bad neighbour, and it would not be a good start if I start pissing my neighbours off with my renovations. LOL!
More pictures... 1 - They start hacking the rest of the concrete flooring... 2 - So they can lay the framework for new floor beams. 3 - That's a lot of work! 4 - Then they start building the scaffolding for the concrete.
1 & 2 - Check out how they build the wooden scaffolding... 3 - I missed going to the site for two days, to find that they had already poured and set the concrete. They were now in the process of removing the scaffolding. 4 - They even prepared some samples for my engineer to test.
Btw, you once said your new villa is in Melaka? We all can't wait to see your new high tech home once it's done.
LOL! What villa? It's just a terraced house... what you would call a row house in some parts of the world. Anyway, I left Melaka a long time ago. Been in PJ for years now.
I know it's a terraced house, but you "mod" the home so it looks like a villa! Anways, your new home is still in PJ?
1 - I can see the sky! 2 & 3 - The two smaller rooms at the back 4 - The water tank. As you can see - the roof is really empty. 5 - This is what it looks like from the rear corner of the house.
1 - They fill over the footers with earth 2 - Then cover it with plastic sheet. 3 - Now they bring in the crane to pour the concrete. 4 - Here comes the concrete. 5 - Concrete being poured.
1 - This is how it looks after they pour the concrete and level it out. 2 - After it sets, they start building the scaffolding for the columns. 3 - Almost done with the scaffolding... 4 - I missed checking it out for a day or two. When I went over next, they already poured the concrete and were in the process of removing the scaffolding. 5 - Completed columns. So many of them!
