We were recently invited to the Dell Commercial Solution December 2014 Showcase.

Take a look at the exciting new products that Dell revealed to us :

Dell PowerEdge FX : Revolutionary Next-Generation Converged Architecture

They started with the introduction of the new Dell FX converged architecture, which is not only highly modular and scalable but also removes the need for SAN storage.

The result is much better performance because storage is now local to the server, removing the network bottleneck.

Key to the new Dell FX architecture is their new 2U converged infrastructure chassis with shared redundant power, networking, I/O and management.

Like Lego blocks, you can now mix and match a variety of server blocks, ranging from a half-width 1U server block with 4 microservers inside to a full-width 1U server block with 4 CPU and 48 DIMM sockets with space for up to 16 SSDs.

Here is a summary of server blocks that are currently available for the new Dell PowerEdge FX2 converged architecture chassis.

Any one of them can be installed together in the FX2 chassis without worrying about configuration.

This is the Dell FX2 chassis filled with FOUR units of the Dell PowerEdge FC630 server block, each of which contains two 18-core Intel Xeon processors, 24 DIMM slots and up to two HDDs or eight SSDs.

What's great about the Dell FX architecture is that you can do away with SAN storage by keeping storage "local".

If any of the server blocks in the FX2 chassis needs storage, just add a storage block like the PowerEdge FD332, which supports up to 16 hard disk drives or SSDs!

Instead of communicating with the servers in that FX2 chassis via the network, all that storage is "local" to the other server blocks and therefore extremely fast with much lower latencies.

Here are two Dell PowerEdge FC630 server blocks sitting on top of the Dell FX2 converged architecture chassis. You can fit four of them in a single 2U FX chassis.

    Dell Venue Tablets

Mr. Tan Hiang, Senior Brand Manager of Dell South Asia, showing off the new Dell Venue 11 Pro (Model 7140) - a 2-in1 convertible.

This is a newer version of the Dell Venue 11 Pro (Model 7130) launched just two months ago.

The difference? The new 7140 features the new 14nm Intel Core M 5Y10 processor.

The Dell Venue 11 Pro is a 10.8" Windows 8.1 tablet with a detachable keyboard dock that conceals a 2-cell battery.

Combined with the tablet's battery, the Venue 11 Pro 7000 series convertible is rated for a battery life of 8-10 hours.

When mounted on the keyboard dock, the Dell Venue 11 Pro looks like a standard 11" notebook...

If you want a lighter carry though, you can opt for the Dell Slim Tablet Keyboard, which lacks the internal battery but is much slimmer and lighter. It also doubles as a cover.

Here, the Dell Venue 11 Pro is mounted on the Slim Tablet Keyboard with the regular Mobile Tablet Keyboard on the left.

The Venue 11 Pro 7000 looks very interesting, but yet again annoying Dell online store only lists it under their Work site which means it can't be ordered online.

That's because Dell is transitioning to a "channel-only" sales model, in which they will sell their products via selected distributors and no longer online.

AFAIK, 80% of their sales this year is through their sales channel, and 20% online. Next year, they intend to go 100% channel.
